Hi,

Headed down Interstate 5 this Thursday to Pasadena / Highland Park (LA) for this weekend. I'm wondering where the faster better chargers to go to are in that area?

Typically when we take a trip we drive our Tesla because of the ease of quick charing. Big rain is the forecast and the Rivian makes minor road flooding no problem.

TIA

This Shell looks like your best option. I tried the Tesla supercharger station (they have a couple level 2s) but could not get the charger to start using the Tesla app. Happened to me in Mammoth, too.
64 E Glenarm St, Pasadena, CA 91106

LMK if you go there and how it worked for you.

Hello - I live in Pasadena and some options for you. There are not a lot of great very fast chargers but some good 50kW options that are cheap (free to 0.15-0.20kW):
  1. Caltech (Powerflex) - look on Plugshare and if you are near Caltech chargers are free on nights and weekends (for caltech parkers at other times). One garage is close to the south Lake shopping area so you can charger and go there while you wait
  2. 155 E Green (Shell recharge) - this is on the top of the parking garage near Old Town and I like this one as you can plug in and then go eat dinner, shop etc
  3. Arroyo Charging hub (Shell Recharge) - this one is always busy and several chargers broken so would try and skip it if you can. This is the 64 E Glenarm one mentioned above
  4. There are EvGo chargers at a mobil station at 1813 E Colorado - these are a little faster but I avoid as are 0.55 kW
  5. Electrify America - there is a set in an Old Town Garage that I have never used
Overall, way more options for Tesla but if you plan around eating and shopping it is not too bad,

Thank you both. I'm supprised given the size down there are not a bunch of Rivian Chargers.

We'll see about the Tesla Charger usage "this spring."

best

There's new ones on South Lake as well behind the shops. The Marengo parking structure has 20ccs but probably charges for parking. Some gas stations now have units as well like the one on Allen and Colorado. The Amazon Fresh in E. Pasadena as it is 30m time limited. Just depends where you'll be. Lots of Teslas charge at the Arroyo Station since it's right at the 110 freeway. They often use CCS since it's cheaper than the Tesla SC. I saw a Riv pull in the other day though.

Rivian spaces their chargers for travel and not urban use. Competing against the endless L2/L3 and home charging doesn't make much sense for them.

If you want to go a little bit away from Pasadena, there are a couple of Volta Charges in Monrovia (504 west Hunting Drive 91016). They are slow (9kw) and often in use, but free, at least the last time I used them.

Also just heard the chargers at Shoppers Lane on south Lake were just turned on today. Haven't tried them but the city called and told me as I had put in a ticket on them. These are Shell Recharge as well

Yes I've tried them. Pretty much 113kwh was the max I saw briefly and then 100kwh for the rest of the 1/2 hour I charged. It was busy and there are also Telsa SC on the back side. Requires the shell app and preload money on the account. $0.20kwh though! Costs me about 0.26 to charge at home, well between .15 and .28. There are 16 CCS plugs but only 8 parking spaces so if you park on the other side where the Tesla units are you block one of those while using the CCS. The Tesla people won't know that when they arrive thinking there's an open one and you won't know if there's a CCS available or if the Tesla is being used.
