Potential bug? Navigation stuck in 2D view when 3D is selected

Since the last software update I've noticed navigation is stuck in 2D orientation when 3D is selected. Seems to happen most when the next turn is coming up within the next mile, which ironically is when 3D view is most needed to anticipate and look out for the turn.

Are others noticing this?

I filed a support ticket, but hoping to get more eyes from Rivian on it

Your post reminded me, I had a case in the last week when I couldn't get nav out of 2D view. I'd tap the 2d/3d/north-up icon, and it would just keep snapping back to the same 2D view after a second or two. Canceling the nav and restarting it seemed to fix it.

I had that happen as well as night mode in the day time. A hard reset solved the issues for me.

This appears to be a change from prior UX when the next turn is <= 0.2 miles. In my opinion this is a bad, bad UX decision, if it was intentional

Yeah, same here. Very hard to use the center display for turn-by-turn navigation when it's so zoomed in. A number of people have noticed and complained about it on Reddit:





I wonder how the driver display looks, I typically have my music there, but maybe showing turn-by-turn directions there is a workaround until Rivian can fix this issue.

Sadly not this one. I just tried this evening.

It seems to be an intentional new behavior, but not a great design. When navigating somewhere and approaching a turn (maybe 1000ft out? don't quote on that), the map on driver and center display switches to 2D and zooms so you can only see 300ft ahead. This works for parking lot speeds, but about nothing else. You can no longer see the intersection approaching on the map.

Such a more confidence-inspiring navigation now. Crazy how much that stinking 2D / zoom in bug (or design choice) impacted it over the past month or two
