I will. That said, I am going out of town for a few weeks so my response will be delayed. Stay tuned.

I have no problem with a UWC and Gen3, Gen 1 Rivian.... other than the standard "panic" that happens for a few seconds until a connection is made.
It could be your firmware in the connectors. When is the last time you upgraded them?
Did you verify the power-sharing features you want, in the setup app?

That said, my amp-max is limited to 40 amps (group)

The universal wall connector is firmware version 25.10.1 and the gen 3 wall connector is version 25.18.0. The gen 3 is about 4 years old, the universal is brand new.
I have not experienced the “panic” yet.
I setup all the power sharing options in the Tesla One app. 60amp circuit, 48 amp max.

The problem I had with the Tesla Gen 3 charger was that when used with an adapter it would overheat and then de-rate down to 24 amps. I ended up installing a separate charger for the Rivian.

I did chat with Tesla support today. Not much help. When I get back I need to test charging the Rivian at 10amps. Not sure what that will prove. I already told them that if I force 24amps everything works. If I charge from the gen 3 wall connector first it works. The error occurs when the Rivian connected to universal connector is pulling 48amp and then I plug a car into the Gen3 wall connector.

Hmmm. I will say that if I set my Rivian to 48 amps, it will only charge for like 30-40 minutes then error out. I’ve heard of alot of people having this issue.
I do not have this issue. I set the amp limit on the universal charger to 40 amp to match my breaker and then the Rivian is set at 48 amp and I don’t bother changing it. Work fine. Gets about 7.1 kWh charging.

I’m curious if it would power share properly with two Tesla vehicles. Do you have two teslas?

Up until Saturday I had 2 Gen 3 wall connectors and regularly charged two Teslas at the same time. Loaded balanced well.

Hmm. Definitely sounds like a communication issue with the Rivian. I bet with the UWC two teslas would load balance as well. Have you tried “compatibility mode” through the Tesla app?

I tried compatibility mode, same problem. When the Rivian is plugged in second the group power management works fine. I will try two Teslas when I get home from vacation.

I’m on a full 60a breaker. Here in AZ my garage gets hot. Rivian hates it. Y has no problem

@Lester Green , I have this exact setup and this exact problem. I have also tried switching leader/follower and placing the UWC in compatibility mode. I also have no problem if I set the Rivian to 24 amps. Anything higher than 24 amps and the UWC goes 7 red as soon as the Gen 3 draws current. Everything works flawless if the Gen 3 is under load first.

I suspect this is a problem with the charger on-board the Rivian. I don’t think it reacts quickly enough to the UWC slashing the amps when the Gen 3 goes active and it results in the Rivian charger trying to overdraw from the UWC new balanced limit and there’s the 7 red lights. Just my guess at the moment.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I agree with you, but I still have the ticket open with Tesla. When the problem happens I can see on the screen the amperage is dropping in the Rivian, but like you said, it’s not smooth/fast enough.

I am going to contact Rivian and see what they say as well.

Mine does it even when the follower charger isn’t used. I can get up to 38a without the errors. I’m in Az though and my garage gets hot obviously. My Model Y never has an issue on either charger
