So here’s a problem. I picked up my R1T on Thursday, 12/7/2023, and then four days later have to be out of town. @COdogman said he was going to create a support group for the likes of me. So far I’ve seen nothing from him, and nothing else but images from our garage security camera of my new baby all alone, crying it’s vertically-oval-ish, eyes out.

I guess when I get back I’ll be the one in kneel mode apologizing to this poor Rivian?? Please, no one report me to the ASPCR!!!

I'm at 15 months and 14,400 miles. I had the front 2 motors replaced about 2 months in. They made a very faint purring sound at low speeds and Rivian determined a replacement was needed. The service wasn't minor, but it was a minor inconvenience to me. Rivian hooked me up with a blue R1T while it was in service. I've been trouble free for last 13,000 miles. Couldn't be happier with the truck and service. I look forward to driving it every day and look for reasons to take it on a road trips.

I’m kinda worried as my R1T is the noisiest EV I’ve ever owned. Which isn’t saying a lot.
Have owned Tesla model S, model3, (2) bmw i4 m50, and drive many others like Volvo c40 recharge, Hyundai Ioniq 5, ford Mach e, ford lightning, hummer ev, model y, model X, blah blah.
Whatever but the R1T has 1600 miles on it and makes a whirring noise and thought it was being added like space ship sounds, trying to find a way to turn it off. But no. It’s just loud? I’m used to our i4 m50’s which are non permanent magnet motors and dead silent, even compared to our Teslas which make some noise and are not nearly as refined as the bmw’s. But I do wonder if our Rivian has problems with the motors. My R1T was built 12/22 so early 2023 model and has been bricked and parked since may 2023 when the 2023.14 update was installed. Not until last month… or November did Rivian finally get to repairing it. Replacing the telematics control module so I can have sos, gps, internet, wireless keys, Bluetooth etc. Also the trunk broke after 3 or so times of using it. The hinges bent and paint cracked, one strut popped off, and two people nearly got their noggins hit hard from it falling on them. Also unfortunately was told I couldn’t get the power tonneau even though it was ordered with one. But delivered without. And pretty darn upset considering we wanted this truck because it had a power tonneau. And told it could be added later, then later told it can’t be added at all. And again said no it doesn’t apply to you? And it will be sorted. What the hell?


Anyhow, nightmare of a truck to own. And having had a year and driven 1600 miles? And in the SC shop over a month, albeit waiting most of the year to get it in said SC. I don’t know what to do now, as we spent a lot of money on tint and clear bra and can’t undo this. If I can’t get a power tonneau I’ll just sell this thing and get a cyber truck. Haters going to hate, but I don’t want to deal with this if it’s going to be any more headaches. I’ve owned a ton of cars, mostly bmw’s and none have had this many issues. Let alone most not even any issues. I do hope Rivian will take care of my truck…
Not to mention vampire drain, in the time it was parked all year. Doing almost nothing at all!!! It had to be charged several times since it sucked juice of about 6% a day! Whoa! While I had one of my m50’s parked from August to end of November and was at 80% in August and 78% end of November, that included a 2hour music listening session in between just in the garage. Anyhow, the i4 has been the best EV we have owned by far.
But wonder, do you have any videos of the loud motors you described? My sound like gears on gears whirring. It’s weird. Kinda like a remote control car but not as high pitched, more to scale sound one might expect.

Seems like most threads are about some issue. Let's also hear from those who've had no or little issues so far. I am one of them.

21000 20 months beating the crap out of it - 10 road trips hauling bikes and more, daily loading and work, travel trailer towing.
Dents, cracked plastic taillights, scratches, torn seat backs , and I turned the back glass into thousands of crystals - $1800 was a bargain to fix it.
Pesky lil things here and there one 80 mile rescue tow with a bum steer
Loving it and best value for the buck in any piece of machinery we’ve ever owned.

I'll join the choir too. 13 months into the ride, only one minor issue (water in the front doors not draining)--fixed at SC. Best car/truck I've ever had. Absolutely loving it my blue beast!

Thank you for letting me know that you have had the car for long and still loves the car. I have only had mine for two months and only had one tiny issue - a window gadsket needed to be fixed, and after the fact, I am in doubt if it was even caused by Rivian or by the person who put film on the car. Rivian's service was done in a timely and professional manner by a very friendly person. I am extremely happy with my car and love the 835 hp standing by in my driveway. Very happy with my Rivian.

And then there are some of us that love our Rivian but have had a “laundry “ list of problems I wouldn’t bother mentioning all the (SC visits).

If we all have the same computers, it befuddles me why I have had to reboot at least 10 times in 6 months. Reasons include:1. Seat adjustment. 2. Alexa failure. 3.Blank screen. 4. Infotainment failure. 5. Iphone 14 won’t connect. 6. Screen buttons don’t respond or go to wrong screen. 7. Cruise assist stopped working. …….
My reference point is a Lexus I owned for 18 years and never went in for service. I did all the battery and oil changes myself. This is also my 10th year driving EVs.
Did I just get a lemon?

2022 #16,483 R1T 16,000 miles. We are happy campers, with both model Y, and R1T. The ONLY issue has been with DCFC's, including one EV GOne, where 4 out of 4 plugs did not work, and with 72 miles on the battery and 66 miles till the closest DCFC, in the mountains of PA. My wife was sweating bullets, anticipating a flatbed tow for a couple of miles to the charger. I shut down everything, went to conserve, and drove under 55mph. Made it barely. Don't know what kind of 'reserve' there is beyond '0'. I thought we had a motor temp problem when they all spiked to 280f, but it was because of preconditioning for DCFC. Service said not to worry unless the spike went over 303f. OK. cancelled the preconditioning, and temps fell like a rock, to 145f in a matter of less than a minute.

June 2023. 1 Mobile Service to fix window trim lifting up. 1 Service visit to fix panel alignment and confirm loud AC noise during hot temperatures is normal due to design issue at the moment. Other than those, no major issues knock on wood yet and 7K miles in with daily commuting and 1600 California to Oregon Road Trip logged and completed.

I got my truck in May of 23. I was worried about a lot of things with this purchase. Are they going to be in business in a year etc... At this point it has been a great decision. I have had two recalls that took minutes to solve and a couple days to solve an issue bit am still excited every day to drive this truck!

2022 R1T with over 32,000 miles. Little to no issues. Mainly small things over time. Hell, even my OG powered tonneau still works.

6 months, 5000 miles and my only issues are QA related from the factory. I’m really enjoying my R1T.
