I asked a electronics engineer at Rivian about this months ago. The reply is it’s too costly. Better off just paying for the 2 batteries. Also, there is some degree of internal sentiment that it may have been a mistake to reduce to one 12v. Two provides security of redundancy, like having duplicate vital organs. Where things went wrong wasn’t because there were 2. It was because of the BMS, which has already been addressed.
I’ve heard the same thing from folks with badges: that the dual battery system may fail with if a battery is not fantastic, the single battery system is expected fail at some point. Many more discharge/charge cycles and no meaningful changes to the BMS.

Just parallel. No real need for an isolator. They are mostly useful when you have a high draw starter battery and a smaller aux battery which could cause an inrush between the batteries. The oem battery is so tiny, I just added an identical 20ah so the odds of a big imbalance are minimal. I did install a 150a fuse just in case.

I don't know why EV vendors don't just use a normal size car battery thats in every honda civic since 1995....it would be 5x the capacity and last so much longer.
Very cool was just curious. I have the two battery set up from the factory but have been considering adding a backup for aux powered accessories or just getting the Garmin power switch.

As an aside, I'll log/graph the vampire drain this weekend over say a 24hr period and post it. Curious actually what the real load is. I don't use the gear guard at home but maybe I'll try it on and off to show the difference.
Any update on this? I'm curious how much of an impact your doubled capacity has on the vampire drain. I've also been playing with the idea of swapping out the garbage 18AH battery with a big 100-200 AH battery mounted in a box in the bed or on a bracket somewhere in the front with a cutout / adjustment to the frunk tub to make space. But it might not be worth the effort it if the truck still wakes up constantly regardless of the voltage drop.
