Couple of quick questions:

Is the loud AC noise an issue with all R1s? And what are the conditions under which it occurs?

Thank you

Yes well known as redantpile mentions.

The more load placed on the HVAC the louder it is. It is worst when ambient temps are above 90F, AC is on, and it's cooling the battery.

Rivian should be able to quiet it down with the noise insulating foam.

FWIW I’ve been dealing with a very loud A/C compressor for months where the speed would ramp up quickly to a “buzz”. Then cycle off and repeat.

Replacing the compressor didn’t fix it. It ended up being a faulty humidity sensor (1 of 2 in the vehicle). After that was replaced, the compressor went back to normal operation and no more buzzing. YMMV

I’m testing out 2 piece and 2 layer SUV roof shades to see how much it helps.

The best thing you can do about the noise is to pre-condition the cabin ahead of time so the AC noise will be at a minimal once you get in to drive.

Yes known issue, I’m expecting it again during the summer months here in California. Once we went into Winter/Spring/Fall never really had much issue with it… Not sure if all older R1s may have to deal with it or if it’s going to fixed for newer and older models.
