R1S shop or wait?

Hi,

I have access to the R1S shop and a few RiSs with my exact configuration have popped up, same price too. I have not selected any yet.

Is there a disadvantage to selecting an R1 shop Rivian vs waiting for mine to be built? If I select an RIS from the shop, could it be an earlier version or something?

my build says “processing estimate” since early September, so I don’t know how much longer the build will take. I did email Rivian and got little insight.

Some folks have found older VINs in the shop, but I believe that is a small fraction. So if that possibility is something that worries you, it would be better to wait. If you are not worried about that then go for it!

I say if you see one in there you like grab it and let the adventures begin.

I think too much is made of the vin numbers, I do not know anyone looking to buy cars in the past really paying that much attention to the vin or the month the vehicle was built. At least I never did in the past or for my Rivian.

My wife's R1S came from the shop. It had just rolled off the assembly line a couple week before we took delivery.

If you see one you like, take it. The last delivery estimate that I got was Jan-Mar 2024, found one in the shop and got it at the end of August.
