I think this post from our neighbors from the north sums it up quite nicely. The iX and R1T are completely different vehicles. Can't speak for the R1T since Rivian continues to punish us Canadians, but my folks have an IX and it is amazing. Range, comfort, and quietness are all outstanding. Truly a great luxury vehicle, not going to hold a candle to the R1T in terms of offroad ability and practicality though and the software is a big hit/miss as a legacy auto.
The iX is an uber luxury vehicle which is quiet, refined, and will serve as the best alternative to a minivan for the soccer mom (or dad) family hauler. It is not built for the kinds of use cases as the R1T.
Regarding the build between the two - the iX, hands down - and I mean it isn't even in the same universe - is a better built vehicle than the R1T. How do I know? Because I have been driving the i3/i3s which inspired much of the platform for the iX since 2015. The technology, refinement, carbon fiber integration, battery technology, and experience with the i3 as an EV platform is going to afford a lot of advantages to the iX from a usability, quality, and probably reliability over the R1T.
Sandy munro gushed over the i3 build technology and GAVE AWAY his reports for the i3 because he loved the manufacturing process - which reinvented how to use carbon fiber - so much.
Think about your realistic use cases and whether luxury, brand reliability, proven service model and cost with the BMW make sense for how you want to use your vehicle.
