On Sunday (10/02) I did the complete 31.5 miles of the Stampede Pass (Crystal Springs to Greenwater) with my R1T. I agree that the initial initial part of it is rather boring with all the power lines, but if you go far enough it begins to get interesting. My favorite scenic wise was a train bridge overhead.
I had a hard time deciding whether I was going to take my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited or my Rivian R1T. I wanted to test out the Rivian on more off-road trails, but I have the 21" Street tires. The Jeep has AT tires, and I can open the roof which would have been great as it was nice out (aside from the dust when someone passes by the other way).
It turns out the street tires were a legit concern as it does get a bit rocky in sections (some smallish, but sharp rocks). But, the biggest issue was the narrowness of parts of the trail. There was some rather tight fits, and in one case the guy going the other way tried to blow past me.
All in all nothing bad happened aside from a few nerve racking moments due to not wanting to hurt my baby.
In the future I'm going to try stick to wider trails where I don't risk scrapping my vehicle against stuff.
I do find it a bit curious that it seemed like more people were coming the other way. I didn't see a single soul going the way I was going even when I stopped to eat lunch.
