LOL. good point.A salesman said? Really?
I would be very surprised if they open with employee only sales. They did that for the R1 because it was all new and they wanted to better control rollout issues. That is not really the case for the R2 and they did say existing owners will be prioritized on the R2 rollout. To employees, maybe. Shop inventory deliveries, to anyone else, probably won't happen until May/June. First Mile demo drives rumored to start in April. Media embargo, on details said to lift tomorrow (2/20), which suggest they've already held a media event. Rivian is once again attending SXSW, which starts 3/12. Wouldn't surprise me if that's also when they open configs and Shop inventory to [early] resveration holders.
Reference: R1 deliveries officially started in late '21. But it was employees and a few influencers who got to jump the "line". Customer deliveries didn't really start until few months later in '22.
Missing context. They said that but they didn't say "with respect to general public, not just employees". In the industry, it's typical for employees to get first dibs—and be the guinea pigs to suss out and correct early production issues. These units are likely in production already.and they did say existing owners will be prioritized on the R2 rollout.
