Back in February I made price predictions along with many others, lets see how we stacked up now that the full configurator is live:
Small battery predictions incomplete, will see when small batteries launch
Premium interior only avaialble as a trim level prediction: correct
Inferred premium interior cost: $4,000 - actual: $1,000! (premium includes $1,000 wheel option)
Inferred AWD option cost prediction: $4,000 - actual: $3,500
Standard RWD prediction: $49k - actual: $50k
Standard AWD prediction: $53k - actual $53.5k
Premium AWD prediction: $57k - actual $55.5k
Performance Package: Prediction: $2k - actual: $2k (configurator bundles $2k wheel upgrade with performance trim)
Launch prediction $60k - $62k - actual: $59.5k (but with very few options included, autonomy was a surprise!)
Wheel upgrades: prediction $1,000 - actual $1,000 and $2,000
Premium interior color: prediction $1,500 - actual $1,000
Paint upgrades prediction: $1,500 - actual: $1,500 - $2,000, white $1,000
Not bad! though I didn't quite get the configuration matrix right. did anyone get any bullseyes? Bring receipts!
All prices include destinationNo one asked for it but I need a place to write it down in public. Here are my pricing and trim predictions. Best way to keep yourself honest is to make predictions and check them later:
I believe there will be a standard and premium interior, but you won't be able to select it, you will need to upgrade the base trim. A battery upgrade option will be available for the standard trims.
Standard RWD $45k - standard interior, small battery, low performance
Standard AWD $49k - standard interior, small battery, medium performance
- battery upgrade option for $4000
Premium AWD $57k - premium interior, large battery, medium performance
- Performance package $2000
Launch $60k - $62k - Premium AWD with performance package included, also likely upgrade wheels and possibly paint and interior. Higher price range is given if more options are bundled.
R2X or R2 Tri $75k - Tri-motor Premium interior, large battery, max performance, includes upgraded wheels (no pricing will be disclosed on March 12)
Wheel upgrades - $1000
Paint upgrades - $1500
Premium Interior color - options other than black: $1500
Autonomy pricing we know as $2500 / $50/mo
I predict that Launch config will be available throughout Q3 with regular AWD only becoming available in Q4 after production hell is mostly through with, and standard trims only available as they fail to sell their capacity, probably sometime in 2027.
Considering how these vehicles are equipped, I think these are price points of incredible value without underselling the premium nature of Rivians vs the "competition".
