My first R1T test drive was in November 2021 - almost exactly 4 years ago. Back then Rivian hadn't delivered vehicles to customers yet (or at least not in any significant numbers), just to employees.
I expect something similar with the R2. The first batches off the production line will be for manufacturing testing and verification and for deliveries to employees as a sort of beta launch. Only then will test drives be available. And with the accelerated schedule for R2 launch, I don't expect there to me more than a few months between this and volume delivery. It may be hard to get a test drive, because I assume they will be prioritized for reservation holders who have early delivery dates, but they will probably have vehicles in the showrooms that you can look at and sit in.
