I don't know about anyone else, but I certainly don't want my vehicle braking for me. There's too much control now. Especially since my garage is tight. I park with 1-2 inches to spare
You have to be accelerating with vigor for it to kick in. It’s a great safety feature, since as this post proves out, life happens. I had it kick in twice on my GV70 over 2 years of ownership and never had any trouble parking very close to the wall (where I back into every day). It really comes in handy if someone is flying through a parking lot while you’re backing.

Glad everyone is ok and no one got hurt. It's a bad situation. The best outcome from this is that you, and perhaps some of us, learn from it. I used to rush around everywhere. Even on vacation. I can't quite explain why. I finally slowed down, last year. I leave the house and "gift" myself an extra 10 minutes. I just tell myself that it's ok to get to the office 10 minutes later. I drive considerably slower than I used to. "Gift" yourself an extra few minutes next time you're off somewhere. Also, IMHO a homeless person can't do more than bother you. It's an annoyance at best. I am not calling you out. Just sharing my thoughts. Cheers.
