Rear Hatch HORIZONTAL Clearance (How far behind the rear bumper?)

Hi! I've got an R2 res and I have realized I won't be able to open the hatch inside my garage while parked "front-in" because my garage door is too low for the hatch. The ceiling of my garage is higher, and shouldn't present a clearance obstacle, so I am wondering if I will be able to back-in and still open the hatch.

There's one thing I'm missing though, my garage isn't super long. Can any owners measure the maximum distance past the rear bumper the hatch extends when opening? I want to know if I'll be able to use the rear opening normally if I back in, or if it'll hit the garage front wall.

Looks like right around 19 inches will work.

Don’t forget the window does drop down so you will have some access through that.

• Base vehicle length: 185.9 inches
• Added overhang from open hatch: 15 to 19 inches past the rear bumper
• Total length (hatch open): ~201 to 205 inches
• Total vertical height (hatch open): ~83 inches from the ground to the tip of the open gate

This'll be my first car with a powered hatch/liftgate so I'm mostly worried about accidental activations. I think the glass could be a good option most of the time, but if there's an orientation I can park where I can't accidentally scratch my paint, that's the one I'm gonna pick.

you can get a pool noodle or foam pipe wrap from Home Depot, slice it in 1/2, and duct tape it vertical to the wall/garage door where the rear hatch would potentially hit to prevent scrapes
