This is not a program to distribute free money to anyone who already owns a Rivian. It is an incentive to get new people to buy, and if you want to collect then get someone new to buy using your referral code. Turn it into a business and quit your day job - spend your time driving around the country evangelizing for Rivian and reaping the rewards.

The referral program is just another incentive the way I look at it.

Its basically a $1,500 incentive and 1 year free charging on RAN. They just split up the incentive and are making a referral program out of it. Its a smart way to do business if you ask me.

Expect the referral program to change a bit if Rivian feels its to their benefit to do so. Isn't the F&F incentive also limited to shop vehicles?

To me its kind of like when your at the car dealer they always want to give you a better deal on something they already have on the lot vs special orders.

I would say Rivian is more than a car company...but....ultimately they sell cars and in the current market they need to do regular car company stuff to move vehicles. Its so brilliant that all car makers should do it. Its free marketing and they only have to pay when they move a unit.

R1, R2, and R3 will all be software defined vehicles. Its a tech first approach. For that reason I consider them more of a tech company too. In addition to selling their vehicles they have now inked a deal with VW to supply some of their IP to help with VW products.

The software and architecture can be licensed to other parties. I guess its the software that makes me feel that way. Its not just controlling the infotainment or the HVAC...it controls EVERYTHING. ?

To me a car company makes hardware and maybe some basic software like a mobile app or infotainment software. Companies like Rivian are more than that IMO.

Don't feel bad. Had I bought a gen2 today, I would have gotten a better car for tens of thousands less with the max pack.

So ... Yea I doubt many care about you complication of a few hundred dollars.
