... I am assuming Rivian is using the exact same Samsung SDI 2170 battery cells that are used in its super-sized 135 kWh battery packs that get 314 miles of range.

That might change considering their investment towards LFT batteries. I definitely imagine so if we start seeing graphene and solid state batteries at the end of 2023 (that's a mighty IF though).

There is a real safety advantage to the fixed glass roof, particularly in side impact collisions. One of the reasons the Tesla Model 3 has such good safety results. Crash energy is absorbed by the entire roof structure, no just the area struck.
