Rivian R1T R1S Removable tray design feedback — which would you choose? Screenshot 2026-02-07 170311

I’ve been getting a lot of requests for a larger removable tray option instead of the sliding tray, so I’m prototyping a few designs and wanted community input before I lock anything in.

Important: all of these are designed to be compatible with the existing organizer for anyone who already purchased. No one gets left behind.

These are the current concepts:

Top design: center nub integrated into the logo. You lift the entire tray by cradling the nub between your index and middle finger and pulling straight up. No extra handles, keeps the look clean.

Right design: no pull feature at all. Completely open interior and maximum usable space, but you’d remove it by grabbing the edges.

Bottom-left design: split tray with a divider and a diamond finger hole. The hole acts as a pull point to lift the tray out.

All three fit the console the same — this is purely a usability / preference question.

If you were choosing, which would you want in your Rivian and why?

  • Clean look with hidden lift nub?
  • Maximum space, no pull feature?
  • Divider + finger hole for easy grab?

I’m trying to balance aesthetics, capacity, and real-world usability, so honest feedback is helpful. Appreciate any thoughts.

I think there's a way to add a poll to collect actual votes. That said, I'd usually choose the clean look of right, but since I have a tray that is ever slightly so small and gets stuck easily, I'm wary and I'd go with top right now.

Divided tray with hole would be my choice if I was looking for a tray.

An idea; you could offer the Maximum space, no pull feature tray with a small hole, or dimple on the underside where a person could drill their own hole. Include a knob and screw and for people that want add a pull.

That could eliminate the Clean look with hidden lift nub option.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Maybe I'll just offer all three for now and see what gets the most attention. Thanks for chiming in. I'll probably put these prototypes online for 50% off ... I want to add a snap in feature to the next version. -Matt

The new trays are now available (niftly3d.com); I have to say, I really like the full lift-out tray. Prototype versions are also available - the only difference between the prototype version and the production version are little clips that secure the tray plate to the tray (see image below).
