#TLDR had defective Lectron adapter would lock on but not always charge of I didn’t press on it hard, would stop if pressure released, would also be hard to remove at times. Got a replacement today and it has completely different serial numbers. Letters and numbers on old one vs all numbers on new. Have not go to try it yet
About a month ago I had an A2Z adapter on order. I was hoping it would arrive in time for my longest trip to date. It was looking like it would not arrive in time, and I saw a post on an Oregon FB Rivian group that the Lectron adapter was available via Homedepot.com for a less than a week delivery. Placed my order, at the time it said they had 87 ready to ship. I looked later in the day and they were now unavailable. I got it in about 5 days. My first use connection seemed to be fine but I got a message about 10 minutes into charging that my charging was being slowed. I had planned on charging to 65% from 50% it got to 64% and stopped. No error messages or anything. Close enough I continued on. On my way back stopped at same chargers. This time I was at 36% and planned to charge to 65% enough to get home. For the same charger slowed message and this time it stopped at 50%. Both times it stopped after adding 14% charge. This time I tried other chargers and could not get the charging to start. 50% was close but enough to get me home(there were EA chargers at a Walmart half way home if needed, I didn’t need). The next day I let it drop to 50% and went to the nearest superchargers about 20 miles away. This time connection went fine, charging started and stayed fast until about 70% and I stopped when it hit 80%. No problems……until I tried to remove adapter. It was stuck and did not seem to budge. It was pretty hot so I let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. It was cooler and I got the adapter to come off with quite a bit of effort. My next time using her adapter it clicked on and locked but when I connected truck nothing happens. I pressed in hard on adapter and heard the click of the charging starting. I let off pressure and it stopped again. So took the whole assembly out and pressed tip of adapter to ground putting my weight behind it. Did not here any “clicking” but this time when I connected it, charging started and I quickly charged up to 80%. I was up in Seattle and tried some super chargers near Southcenter. This time same thing connected it locked together but would only start charging if I pressed in on adapter. I could only try one charger as they were full and busy. So I left heading down the road toward Tacoma. Got to another site and there was a R1T charging but the only other open spots I would not be able to reach with cable so I waited until something opened up. I got into a stall and realized these were either V4 chargers or updated V3. Much longer cable. Adapter snapped on plugged in, charging started and charged fast to 80% week later I had towed my travel trailer to Oregon coast for first time. Also was able to use 50amp hookups to charge. While up in Tillamook I decided to try the superchargers there. I did not need to charge but wanted to try. There was only one open spot, got in , adapter clicked and was locked, put in truck but no charging. Again I could press on it and it would start to charge but would not keep going if I let go. Tried pushing on ground, but nothing. All chargers were busy so I left.
Started a chat with Lectron customer service. They wanted photos or videos of issue. After some back and forth they wanted to send me a label to return and once they got it would send me a replacement. I then remembered I get 90 days return at HD when I use their card. The website showed more in stock ready to ship. Ordered a replacement and let customer service know I had done an exchange through HD. New adapter arrived today and I noticed that they have totally different serial numbers. The one I’m returning starts with letters and the new one is all numbers. Hoping this new one is another revision as CS at Lectron indicated I was not alone in this issue. It will be a bit before I can go to the closest superchargers. Heading on a trip here next month where Superchargers will most likely have to be used or at least will be the easiest to use.
