Despite the 8 steps saying I can upload a picture of a cashiers check (which is what I've been planning for) my guide just told me that I have to either overnight a cashier check to arrive before the 29th, or pay through the entire amount for the car online by the 29th or they will cancel delivery on the 31st. They won't accept payment on delivery day when picking up the car.

Unsure about paying sight unseen given some of the issues people have run into and ended up rejecting vehicles at delivery. Never have been asked to do so for any car we've bought before. Has anyone else run into this?

Update - Spoke with my guide and apparently it's due to Rivian not having a license to sell vehicles in Pennsylvania. In the event delivery is rejected, they'll just match to a new vin on the lot or to a new vin at the factory.

I paid mine in full being meeting it, knowing I could still turn it back after 7 days. A much better policy than for some of the classic cars I've bought sight unseen. But then, we even bought a house PIF via wire before seeing it in person.

I also paid for my R1T in full before seeing it, using Rivian's ACH electronic payment process, and didn't have any problems with my transaction, or any quality issues with truck.

I paid in full as well. It's not your car legally speaking until you sign at delivery and up until then Rivian has to give you your money back. They are a multi billion dollar company and as such they aren't out to screw you out of 100k , most likely less.

Most large purchases work the same way but the paper trail protects you. I wouldn't worry about it.

After buying from the store and being told delivery was in less than a week, I paid in full via ACH transfer the day or two before delivery without seeing the vehicle first. It had to be a checking account (and maybe savings account at a bank) but not a brokerage account. My biggest fear was a transfer from Savings (Apple) to my checking account would be delayed by a money laundering review. Fortunately, no problem. The truck has been fantastic.

It was the same in WA State. I technically bought it from Rivian in Illinois and it only got “delivered” to me in WA. The temporary tabs were also from IL and not from WA. Useless legislature and powerful Dealer$ lobby….

We can thank our lame, Luddite and lobbyist controlled Pennsylvania legislators for this mess and allowing only Tesla to sell in the state. In the event you have serious vehicle issues at delivery, don’t sign, or return in 7 days. Yes, you will have to wait for a refund or new replacement allocation, and you may have to make payments or be out of non-refundable fees if financed. You have to decide on your level of risk acceptance. 42,000+ of us have done it, the vast majority with minimal or no issues.
