I am still debating swapping my Dune R1S for a Quad. But I’m seeing that Rivian now shows residual values on their website.

I am seeing residuals for a 36/10 lease on a tri max come to 58% vs 52% for the Quad! Is that really the case? When you factor in incentives, you are paying $25k+ more for the Quad vs the Dune but the residual is 6% less…

That seems CRAZY, with some tri max config worth MORE money than a quad after 3 years…

They must know why, but usually it is because the bigger they are, the harder they far - in terms of depreciation. You'll also see the dual hold its value better than the tri. Exciting prospect to buy a used gen2 quad in 3 years for around $66k, but brutal for those buying now knowing how much their vehicle will drop in just a few years.

Both will hold their value much better than that.

My observation about EVs and their price points are that higher priced EVs depreciate more, in terms of percentage, than a lower priced EVs.

Most EVs over $100K (e.g., Taycan,/e-Tron GT, EQS, Q8 e-tron and so on) are hit with roughly 50~60% depreciation just after 2~3 years; whereas, EVs in $40~50K are seeking more typical that of ICE equivalent (~30~40%) for the same period.

With the EV incentives going away, the resale market might improve a bit over the next year but many people I know who don't own an EV equates buying pre-owned EVs to buying yesterday's technology - sort of like buying a used PC.
