To all I am torn between the Catalina Cove and Borealis color for the R2 when I order. I test drove the Catalina Cove and the color is absolutely beautiful in person. I know there is no way I will be able to see Borealis as the color has not come out yet. Is there anyone in the Maryland, Virginia or Washington DC area that has the Borealis R1S that would be gracious enough to meet my husband and I to see what the color looks like in person? We would be happy to take anyone to lunch or dinner or provide you the money to take yourself if you would meet us as a token of appreciation. Any takers please, please let me know and respond.

Thank you so much future R2 owner,

Terri

Why not drop by the Service Center in Gaithersburg? Their is a decent chance they’ll have one on hand.

They don't. I already called and they only have the Glacier White. I test drove Catalina Cove in Glen Burnie and was surprised they had that color. I checked Tysons also. The problem is since the color isn't available until September none of the centers are going to have it.

They should have a sample panel if nothing else, so you can see the metallic effect in different lighting conditions.

Lots of images here, online and from Rivian when Borealis was first offered as a limited edition for R1S. All together, from Google image search, the images should give you a good idea. As you look at them, you'll notice they all look a bit different. And that's the nature of metallic paints. Metallic paints are intentionally dynamic. No one panel is one specific shade of the base color. It's a range. Another thing to keep in mind is what Rivian Design does in their selection of base colors. They take the original inspiration, mute it slightly to make theirs different (and more earthly). But because of what metallics do in paint, the result can still be vibrant—pending lighting conditions, the environment (and all colors within it) and how that light is reflected. The same panels can look different even as you change your viewing angle. You've probably noticed this with Catalina Cove. If you still can't decide after looking at images... My controversial advice is to do neither and pick the "free" Esker Silver. Rivian released a bunch of high quality images that I'm sure had to be approved by the design team. And that means they are very accurate representations. It's not just a plain-jane-silver. It's yet another metallic and just as dynamic. Being a standard color, no additional funds are required. No pressure of making the wrong commitment. Plus, being standard color, it will probably increase your delivery odds.

Borealis is definitely purple, but when it cloudy or dark its not bright at all, and it doesn’t scream “look at me” when one drives down the road in my opinion. Unfortunately I am thousands of miles away from you but there are several hundred of S and T R1 models out there so maybe you will see one eventually.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this information. I did see the pictures of Esker Silver and it looks nice however I am tired of gray vehicles. My last two have been gray. I actually saw somewhere that to order the Esker Silver it would take 12 weeks. I really loved how the Catalina Cove looked on person and the different shades in the light. I will probably get this but wanted to see Borealis to be certain.

It will definitely be more unique than any shades of blue. And as far as flamboyance (for lack of better word) goes, it's actually pretty safe... since it's not Barney purple all the time and everywhere. It can be as dark as black with a hint of purple. As for repairability, both are probably just as difficult to match. But nothing a good painter can't handle (the reason they paint/blend adjacent panels).
