Did not had much time to do research for insurance quotes as the time window was very short from when i received my VIN to taking the delivery. So went with my current auto insurance.
Are rates for rivian insurance completive?
Did anyone picked rivian insurance over other?

Rivian insurance, 'Nationwide' was $400 more/ 6months than my current USAA policy, maybe they would discount a little to bundle our second car and house, but not enough to offset that much of a difference.

$400/6 month sounds steep!

Depending where you are, Rivian Insurance Services, LLC, may suggest plans through various insurers. I'm awaiting delivery and will jump to a plan they suggested (not Nationwide).

In my specific situation, my current insurer quoted $880/6 months for the R1T with "new car pledge" (up to 110% of original cost).

The quote I got through Rivian was $767/YEAR with full replacement cost (not limited by original purchase price). To get that, I have to move our home owners' plan as well, but I'm fine with that.

Insurance is annoying, but It's pretty simple to talk to them.

The only reason to get Rivian insurance was the informal back door that helped some people get a replacement vehicle more quickly. If you have an R1S, you may find that to be a valuable thing. However, if you have an R1T, it really isn’t needed any longer. It took about two months to get my R1T totaled due to it still being a new vehicle and little pricing info out there. But once it was totaled, I put down my $1000 on Rivian.com and was in the R1 shop within 3 days.

I would have bought a new one but I found a very low mile Launch Edition R1T at a used lot for about $15K less than new so I went that direction. The only downside to buying used is that I can’t get new car replacement coverage. I’m OK with that because my insurance payout was enough that I’m only financing about $40K.

In my situation it was a wash. I had USAA for Auto and don't even remember who I had for Home, but when I bundled both under Nationwide it was the exact same cost. Rivians offer was slightly worse coverage than USAA (500k vs 1m) but I like the expedited replacement vehicle for Rivians insurance since I have an R1S and wouldn't want to wait a year for a new vehicle.

I wish I got a quote instead I was told they aren't adding more plans from Maryland and to check back in 6 months.

I'm on USAA now but I'm not a fan of how the company has been changing and how much my insurance keeps increasing so I'm just starting to shop around.

So if teh car is total you will get $75k or $95k?
Theoretically, the cost of the new car ($95,200). Under the quote from my current insurer, the theoretical maximum is 110% of $75,000, so $82,500.

It's insurance, however, so I don't trust 'em, of course.

OP, you should just get yourself quoted. There are anecdotes everywhere with ranging bias.

My personal experience: Rivian (underwritten by Nationwide) insurance saved me a ton of money, WITH better coverage, bundled home + auto + umbrella and came in almost $1k less expensive/year than my previous (AND we found out we were inadvertently under-insured on our home due to inflation not being adjusted for on our current policy).

THAT said, there are some members who have had their R1Ts long enough to be up for renewal, and have reported their rates going up a significant amount in subsequent years. I don't know how ubiquitous that is, given the fact that generally, happy or satisfied people don't jump on the internet to exclaim how happy they are with their insurance, so you're just hearing from the [potential minority] with bad experiences so far.

I *HAVE* been told by the Rivian insurance advisor that Rivian Insurance will be prioritized in a scenario where your vehicle is a total loss as far as getting a replacement would go. SO, all else being equal, I appreciate having an insurer who understands my vehicle and puts me first. For example: if you take your R1 rock crawling or off-roading, will your current insurer cover you? Rivian will, as that's the anticipated use-case for the vehicle. YOUR insurer may tell you that's outside of their scope of coverage, however.
