Rivian Tires - Better range/acceleration question

The Rivian tire/wheel combo with the best acceleration/range appears to be the 21" wheels with road tires. I'm curious if getting the 20" and putting road tires (as opposed to the stock all-terrain) would improve the acceleration/range enough to justify the change. Typically, smaller tires do better on acceleration, range and ride, but I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts.

I plan to do some off road, but it will be pretty light, so range and acceleration are higher priorities for me.

A lot of that will depend on the actual wheel weights, which aren't known. Beyond that, there aren't many street tires in the stock size that are much (if any) lighter than the stock all-terrains. I'm considering putting 20's on mine, but going with a smaller, more common 275/60 size (same outer diameter as the 21"/22" tires). So far, there's been no mention of being able to tell the truck what tire size is on it though, so that'll likely be an issue. Hope they change that soon for those of us that are likely to run two sets of wheels/tires.

Would be REALLY great if someone who already has their R1T delivered does this exactly, and reports back their experience with range of 20"AT vs 20" AS. Would help a lot of us...

Acceleration will be fastest in the 22" sport wheels. They are stickier so better acceleration but that impacts range which is why you lose 5-10% I guess.
Range will be best on 21" as you mention.

I am certain a 20" tire with a less aggressive tread and similar size to the 21s would get better range. Will they be as good as the 21" tires, that is hard to say as they were designed for the R1T so it might be hard to do better with anything after market.

@Speedrye - The truck appears to at least know what tires you have on it, it calculates my range based on the 20" AT tires. Sure its not user updatable.

Sadly, you can't get everything with one wheel/tire combo. Buy the 22 sports if you want to go fast. Buy the 21 streets if you want to go far. Buy the 20 AT's if you want to go off-road. You'll be making some sort of compromise no matter your choice. Buying the 20-inch wheels and putting an aftermarket street tire on it is likely to be sub-optimal. The stock 21-inch tires are designed to accommodate the high weight of the vehicle and also have low rolling resistance. I don't know of any aftermarket option available at this point that will deliver you better results. I will say from personnel experience that the stock 20-inch AT's will give you 270-290 miles of range (depending on how you drive), feel great in terms of straight-line and cornering performance, and should be capable off-road (I haven't been off-roading in mine yet).

Thanks for starting the thread. I've been wondering the same thing. I like the idea of the 20' wheels for potholes more than off-roading. More rubber plus a more efficient tread pattern seem ideal.
