Just curious why you would do that.If I sell my IPO shares now my post-IPO shares will cover the loss plus 5k. Very tempting.
If you just hang onto them you can strategically offset capital gains with the loss. I would hang onto them and wait until I had the capital gains to offset before I sold them. Kind of a win/win, you would know what gains to offset before selling and you might get more for them when time to sell.
What am I missing?
