Just got my R1T back from the service center for an alignment and road force balance for my existing tires/wheels. I noticed that all wheels had the old wheel weights (factory type) still on the wheels. Clearly the old wheel weights were never removed. Am I correct that wheel weights should be removed first?. Also, after the alignment, it's tracking much more straight now and maybe the wheel shake is a little better but still present.

Were there additional weights added as well? If so, and you're not getting any vibration or feedback that you notice, I would imagine its ok.

Probably the RIGHT way would be to strip them and start from scratch, but I'd imagine as long as the old ones don't fly off anytime, balancing them with them on would work...

Usually (any shop) weights are removed only if necessary or customer specifically request for a from-scratch re-balance.

Long story short here....there was an issue with one tire.....and they put the spare on after they did a road force balance on the set. Clearly the tire had issues....its got cracking in a line all throughout 1 tread...an inspection would have prevented them from wasting time with doing the balance. I have no idea why they wouldn't have did the road force balance on the spare that was put on but it is what it is. I'm going to just find a local shop that will do the one tire for me and be done with this. The service center is an hour away and not worth the drive.

America's Tire, AKA Discount Tire has a strong relationship with Rivian. I have a shop that is excellent and knows and does perfection. Each time I go there, I directly speak to the manager about any tech that is going to touch my Rivian. I ask if he/she has been fully trained to the Rivian protocol. I explain that the blogs online are full of Rivian wheel issues and I respect and require the service is done by someone that respects the complexities of Rivian wheels. I offer to wait for such tech to be available or pay for the extra time needed to put the pucking covers back in correctly etc. I try not to come off as a jerk, and realize they use a time schedule on every tire on every tech and they are in business to make $, it is a mutual respect. They serve, I pay, no discounts asked.
