Before we begin - remember folks, this is for fun and speculation....what else is there to do for the next year or two?

I currently drive a RWD EV6 Light Long Range and am about 90% comfortable with only having rear-wheel drive and 225HP. I know most of the people here are jazzed about an 800hp R3x coming someday, but I don't have much interest in something like that as my daily driver.

I'm strongly considering keeping things simple and going with an R2 similar to my EV6 when my reservation ticket is pulled - but still speculating what that will look like for HP and range. I'm sure this will be the longest-range (300+ miles) version of the R2 (I'll spring for the largest battery pack they have), but what about HP?

FWD/RWD EVs are all over the map in terms of HP - so what's everyone's take on how much Rivian might power up the R2?

Note - If RJ or anyone at RIvian has hinted at this already, please point me to where that was, I don't recall seeing/hearing anything.

I'm hoping for about 275-300hp, which would probably seal the deal for me getting the RWD version.

Thoughts? Hopes? Dreams?

Assuming it will use the Enduro motor I would expect 330-350hp and lb-ft. 0-60 in the 5-6 second range.
especially if they get the curb weight down
Comparison - current R1S Dual Standard is less than 7000 pounds (I'm guessing less since the Quad is right at 7000) and has 533 HP
Will the motors be exactly the same or some smaller variant?

I think the assumption is that it will use the same Enduro motors from the R1 dual, but that's speculation. I expect the R2 to weigh significantly less than the R1,, ideally less than 5,000lbs curb weight.

I think its a pretty safe assumption that it will be the Enduro drive unit, but you wont get all the power without paying extra for a Performance package. If we assume based on the R1 numbers, it'll probably be around 275 hp for Standard.

I've wondered if they might offer the dual motor Ascent in a strictly rear drive vehicle. They're practically picking the front wheels off the ground in the R1, anyway...

I doubt they will have a "performance upgrade" on the RWD version. I think you'll get the full power from the single Enduro on that one at the base price but you may have performance limitations from a LFP battery that will probably be the only battery option.

I had the same thought regarding a rear-Ascent only package just popping wheelies on a stoplight launch.

As a side note...how do you like the EV6? They are a much better value (in comparison to cost in the USA) in Canada than a Rivian would be and given recent price hikes up here, we are now looking at Kia as a possibility. Significant dealer incentives right now on 2024's up here. I'm sure the R2 will be nicer but the Kia likely represents better value?

So far I love it, I've put about 11K miles on it in a little over 10 months. I've had none of the ICCU issues that some owners have had with Kia/Hyundai EV's either. Honestly, for the lease price it was an offer I couldn't refuse. I'm hoping the end of lease is close enough to when my R2 reservation will be ready for delivery.

I just remembered they previewed an R2 drive unit last year during investor day, called it Maximus, enduro gen 2.

On the completely opposite side of the spectrum, Rivian is missing the boat in not creating a 4,000-5,000 lb vehicle with sub 3.2 0-60 acceleration. Some EV buyers would love a Rivian but won't give up the acceleration capabilities in a Tesla or Macan.

I think that likely comes later - right now they need to focus on getting a $45K mass-market Model Y competitor to market. They did mention a tri-motor R2 so perhaps that will be close to what you are speaking of but probably not quite that fast... The R3x may also bring a lot of performance customers that want a smaller high-performance model but it might be too small for a lot of folks (including me).

Jer-I respect where you're coming from. I just got a speeding ticket. It was the cops fault for having a laser gun that my radar detector didn't pick up. Not my fault for speeding at all. I love going fast for absolutely no reason at all. Given my recent experience, I think a nice "conservative" 300hp R2 is a nice proposition. What's the hurry?
