Do you mind if we ask how much you sold the R1T for? Just curious on what resale looks like for the type of miles you had.

Beyond that, I hear ya about your reasonings for going a different route, they really need to get this service stuff ironed out.

Your truck (just the truck) is what pushed me into going with a Riv. That wrap I still think is the best looking thing on a Riv. Did you sell it with the wrap too?

I got $47,500. Was asking $49,500

This is of course due to the mileage 65k as you mention but also at least one known suspension issue (bad strut). I also had the extras too, PTC, rock sliders, spare, RUS, off road recovery kit and some other things. The wrap as well was still intact, buyer loved it and was in the process of moving to Chicago.... so maybe the next member of the Windy City Rivian club or whatever it is called .

Carvana offered $41k

Honestly not any major issues right now. I did notice a bad strut in the rear while rotating the tires, buyer is aware of the issue. Also have had a safety recall on the books forever. You are probably aware but yes been a number of other suspension issues over the years. 7 air shocks replaced, 2 compressors, rear subframe, rear light bar twice and a whole host of other smaller issues.

My biggest issue with service is just how it operates. There is no accountability and if you don't press the issue then things just get lost. For example recently I have been getting 'Service Suspension Soon' errors and have an open recall. Every couple of weeks I get a call from Rivian, I explain the issues and they tell me they understand and need to reach out to the service center. Every time they promise to follow up next day and they never do.
I've had the same issues with the lack of accountability.

When I had the tock issue they initially tried to claim it was "within spec" and then they had the service bulletin which was supposed to address it. But, the service department messed that up. So I had to keep pushing them to fix it. Eventually this was resolved by taking it to another service department.

Now it's two issues.

One is a wind noise issue where they failed to fix it, and I kept fathom why. It's obvious so I find it maddening that I have to go back down there the day before Christmas to have it fixed again.

The other is a SW bug that prevents ATMOS music from working. It doesn't matter if its Apple Music or Tidal. It simply isn't available and my Truck has the necessary hardware. Service tried everything to get it to work but it doesn't work. I'm not too confident that this will ever be fixed.

For now I'm keeping the truck, but I might move to something else when the 60K mile warranty runs out.

For the record I've never actually exceeded the mileage warranty on any car I've ever owned. So its kinda funny that I'm keeping the worst car service wise. It's just that the worst car service wise is the best vehicle for my use case.

Jeese... they didn't want that vehicle!

I wonder how much being out of the 5yr/60K Comprehensive Warranty factored in that lowball offer?

FWIW- At the end of Oct I traded in my 2023 R1T Quad/Large with 4,000mi on it for $60K which was right in the middle of the KBB "trade-in" range for a vehicle in excellent condition.

Just went on a 5,400 mile road trip (OR,WA,ID,MT,ND,MN,WI --> MN,SD,NE,CO,WY,UT,ID,OR) in my new van for the holidays so I wanted to do a quick analysis/comparison to my Rivian with a camper.

Assumptions:

- My QM Rivian with a camper averaged about 1.6 mi/kWh in the winter (also included using electricity in the camper to heat it.) Assumed a rough DCFC cost of $0.4/kWh
- My Promaster camper averaged 14.3 mpg for the drive. Also using gas to heat my van.

Other caveats to note.

- The van is quite a bit larger than the Rivian both in length and height
- Gas prices are pretty low right now but note I didn't buy any of the cheap 85 octane stuff they sell the central states

The results:

- I spent $1080 for gas as a hole on the trip
- Using the assumptions above that would be ~$1350 of the same trip with the Rivian

The Rivian is more comfortable to drive but not nearly as accommodating. DCFC charging time would have likely added a day to the trip each way in the Rivian.

My final take. For multi-day travel it's certainly possible in an EV but not as convenient and with current fuel costs no cheaper. Still very much believe EV is the way to go for most daily/local trips.

I feel like I could easily be in this boat when the warranty is done - hopefully my R2 reservation will be ready first ?
I've been thinking about the same thing - i.e. what is this vehicle (R1T) going to cost me once the warranty is up? It seems to me that there are a couple of chronic issues that are not getting resolved quickly and there is a risk they will be long-term expenses. For example:

1. Front CV axles and hub issues. I've already had both front CV axles replaced at just under 30k miles. The job and parts would be several thousand out of warranty and it seems like a chronic issue.
2. Air suspension and hydraulics issues. There are tons of threads with people experiencing issues with both at around 60k miles and the repairs are incredibly expensive.

These types of things concern me enough that I've been consciously trying to limit miles I put on the truck. I'd feel better about the issues if parts were available but it seems Rivian is not selling parts to consumers and aftermarket parts don't exist. Parts availability would also open it up (make if feasible) for service outside of Rivian SC's.

Has anyone heard anything about parts availability?

Given the newness of the truck, and limited reliability history, I decided to invest in an extended warranty. Normally, I wouldn't, but given the cost of the repairs when out of warranty, I made the tradeoff.

If I sell the truck it is transferable so I could get more money for it when selling or just cash it out and get a refund. I am covered for 10 years/175k miles. If I keep it as long as I plan, I'll likely get my money out of the warranty. If there is a Gen3 R1T, I might consider it but that might be the earliest I'd upgrade. There are not enough improvements in the Gen2 given the increased price for me to consider unless I stumble across a great deal on a used Gen2 quad someday. ;)

Almost all vehicles have issues. I never expected Toyota or Honda reliability though they have occasionally had issues too. Being an early adopter has risks. We may not know all of them for a few more years down the road.

Sure, I went with Xcare. They've been highly respected in the Tesla community. FYI, there is a mileage break point at every 10k miles. So if you are thinking about doing it, get it before you rollover the next 10k milestone.

No doubt.. as I recall I paid $80k for my QM and also got a $7500 tax credit. Luckily I have a bad ass ICE van for long distance trips now so maybe I could do with a standard pack, I also still have a day 1 R2 reservation which could be my next Rivian.

Congrats on the new rig btw.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Well after 65k miles and over 2.5 years of ownership I sold my launch edition R1T today. Sad to see it go and it's been an adventure.

Why I decided to sell:

- Service
- Service
- Service
- Cost of ownership of an out of warranty vehicle

This isn't a thread to complain about service, some times they got it right but it's not a consistent experience and not a good recipe with an aging vehicle.

Still a stock owner, will consider a Rivian again (still have an R2 reservation) but for now this is good bye.

It looks like you had some great adventures. I’m sorry that Rivian service is so spotty. Hopefully it will improve over time. They’ve gotta get this right for R2 or there’s going to be hell to pay.
