Super excited, finally. Last year a placed a deposit for a R1T and waited a while before cancelling because I got impatient. Ended up receiving an email about receiving a R1T in a quicker time frame and it was enticing. I placed another deposit May 22nd, got shop access May 24th and finally found a configuration I liked and locked it in today. Will be moving away from our Tesla Model X and can't be more excited for the R1T and the adventures that will come with it.

Congrats.. nearly 34k miles on my T and still love it.
Thank you and love to hear it! There's so much to do off-road around us, so we're excited to explore. My entire vehicle journey has always been on track/pavement. Will be a great experience to lightly explore.

This post makes me really angry. I placed a deposit May 5th, confirmed my build on May 14th. Asked my guide for shop access on may 16th, and I still don't have shop access. WTF?

Do you think it has something to do with already confirming your build prior to shop access? I noticed that once I confirmed an available configuration, shop access disappeared.

I'm sorry :(.

Yes but I didn't confirm an available configuration, I confirmed my order. Not the same thing. I dont even have an estimated build date. I'm just in the queue.

I have sent a message to my guide with a link to this thread highlighting that this is unfair. I have also asked if I should cancel my order and place another one to speed up the process. This seems really incompetent of Rivian and makes me think twice about the brand. As a fledgling brand you would think they would not behave in such a disreputable manner like Tesla.

I understand it's not the same thing - it was meant to point at the decision to confirm your config meant no shop access since you have a confirmed config (shop or not).

This is my second time putting a deposit down. I gave up the first time with 9 months of silence and chalked it up to Rivian figuring out operations.

I almost want to delete this thread out of fear of making folks like you upset.

Every car manufacturer does this across the board. Orders are never a first come first serve affair. I’ve watched guys who ordered months after me receive the exact same truck configuration shipped to the exact same dealership. I’ve also been that guy who placed an order and received it before other buyers who ordered the exact configuration months before me. It happens.

Right but the difference is that the last input by me in this process was a discussion in which the guide agreed to put in a request for shop access for me, and there was no change on my end since that discussion.

If you are saying that the act of confirming my build prevents shop access, then the guide should have told me that at the time as I i had already confirmed the build prior to the conversation with the guide.

I don't think that is necessarily true. With dealer based models, it is obviously subject to the allocation levels of different dealers, but when I ordered my Corvette last year from MacMulkin, I was able to see my number on the waitlist, I was able to see the number moving up every week, until my allocation came up. Its pretty linear and predictable.

I understand with brands like Rivian and Tesla, things like location and state may come into it. But I have seen people in my own city receive shop access before me. The whole shop access thing is ridiculous. They should either not have it and do manual matching, or they should have open access based on the age of a customer order.

The current model seems like favoritism and it is inequitable. And BTW it isn't in there interests for people to keep cancelling and placing orders because the system becomes a lottery.

These were all custom orders with VINs assigned, not dealer stock allocations.

Perhaps your config was a dual motor or so? Only quads are available in shop for now so wouldn't likely see any or get access if that's that was the case.
