Shifting into neutral - tips / tricks?

Is there a trick to easily and consistently shifting into neutral? I seem to go into reverse, back to drive, reverse … and finally hit neutral. Any tips?

Only go halfway up, hold it there.

Go the opposite way of which gear you put her in. Half way up.

So if I put her in drive. And want to go to neutral. I would push/pull the opposite direction from drive, but only half way up
