Just because you haven't been stranded doesn't mean you haven't been close to getting stranded or the anticipation of it. I have to laugh at those that say they have no problems fast charging then find out they take one measly road trip a year.

The FUD was brought on by the CCS rollout/implementation which has been a disaster. If the reliability was equivalent to the supercharger network, these announcements wouldn't be taking place.

It also speaks volume when the EV apologist Kyle Conner, who was the old superhero around here, doesn't recommend CCS.

Mine arrived and went with compass as my trade in value was great , used the address in Oregon for no sales tax , first drive today felt odd , few miles to ceramic pro Portland for ppf, this owner is the best I have chatted with over the few months, and the owner let me have a loaner car for the nite …..

I arrived two hours early at Portland and dropped the truck two hours later for ppf .

I have several automobiles and I purchased a truck for light hauling or mtn bike rides .

Will charge at office or home , the rivian network will grow and I will plan my trips the same as I plan my trips for my personal aircraft.

If you don’t NEED it right now, I’d wait. Between NACS changes and the economy I’ll be delaying my R1S until the dust settles.

Instead, I am nervous about a F’ing plug.
Not sure my response is going to help, but the charging connector is the least of MY concerns.

After needing to have my entire front drive unit replaced, entire HV battery pack replaced, half-shaft and wheel alignment adjusted, front passenger window motor replaced, …. I’m mostly concerned about long-term reliability.

Rivian has fixed all the issues under warranty, but I’ve been without the truck for weeks at a time. Also, it’s hard to feel adventurous when I don’t know when the next major issue is going to hit.

When everything is working, the truck is AMAZING ?, but it is no longer a vehicle that I can depend on. I’ve been eating a bit of crow lately after my neighbors watched my R1T get towed away again recently. My family now refuses to take it on long family road trips and vacations. I can’t really blame them.

In short, don’t sweat the small stuff. The NACS vs. CCS is a minor issue. Many (most?) R1 owners haven’t had the issues I’ve had, so I can only hope the same for you.

Furthermore Tesla has already committed to opening 7500 chargers to all EVs by the end of next year.
Personal opinion: I don't think this will happen.

That being said, the 7,500 number included both L2 ans DCFC chargers. The number of Superchargers they said they'd open up was like 3500, the rest would be destination L2 chargers.

Lots of great comments here that I concur with. Take a step back and measure this concern on a global scale and it will put things into perspective. I will admit I worry about certain things. I worry about innocent people dying in Ukraine and the future of the world. I worry about the climate. I worry about how external influences have pitted brother against brother to the point that we cannot have a civil discourse or respect different choices.

I try to focus on deriving as much joy out of the simplest things in my life. Fresh air. A nice run. Just "take life a quarter mile at a time." Cheers!

Not worried at all. If you own an EV you will own adapters that will allow you to charge with different technologies.

I have owned a Tesla with the magical NACS port for years and we own several adapters. J1772, CHAdeMO, NEMA 14-50, NEMA 6-50 etc. It gives you the most flexibility. We have used all of these several times while traveling because you never know what will be around and the most convenient.

When people are taking about this it really only pertains to Supercharging/DC Fast charging. With Tesla now starting to open these up as well it will be a non issue. Worst case another adapter in the trunk.

Those Ford and GM vehicles made before 2025 will need them as well.

I don't understand the, "you charge at home most of the time, don't worry about it". If this was really the case GM and Ford wouldn't be making these huge Hail Mary announcements with Tesla.
You answered your own question at the end of your sentence with the phrase "Hail Mary". A Hail Mary pass is a high risk, low probability pass usually done when you are way behind and have no other chance to catch up. That's why Ford and GM are making this announcement. GM and Ford are behind the curve EV wise and it shows.

The lightning has less vehicles out there than Rivian does at this point and their problems are worse. I don't recall Rivian ever needing a stop sale order on their vehicles. GM has the joke hummer that they have made 20 something of all last year. You do charge at home most of the time and if you cannot charge at home you might want to wait on getting an EV.

So this "hey look at us guys we have way more charging now" is an attempt to deflect from their struggles at producing decent EVs. It's also playing on the FUD that people like yourself come here and spread. If you can plan it isn't that difficult to take a trip in an EV, ANY EV. The tools are out there like plug share, a better route planner and various fast charge apps. Is it ideal, no but it's not how you're making it out to be as some impossible task either.

I don't know what your deal is or why you hang out here but every post you make is whining about EVs or stock prices or whatever and it's getting a little old, especially when they are as out of touch as this post is. Do you even own an EV? If so why is it so difficult to figure something out that I could get my 12 year old to do with an over 90% success rate?

Are you suggesting that Elon would try and make the Tesla charging port the ‘North American Charging Standard’ and then use a competitive advantage to pick winners and losers in the EV space…. ⚡ Shocking ⚡

Exactly what I mentioned. Rivian has to be considering NACS, and if they decide to change I personally would rather wait until it’s implemented rather than dealing with an adapter. Who knows what other changes may arise as a result. Namely better cooling function while charging which has proven to be an issue.

And the economy is showing signs of slowing which will ultimately affect people’s willingness to spend 90k on an SUV. Pair that with rivians lack of profitability and cash burn and there is plenty of dust. They’re getting the boot from the NASDAQ 100 this week to add to their woes. How long can they sustain?

Thanks everyone. I’m feeling a bit better. I have been driving an electric Mini for the last 18 months and love it. I hope I have as much fun driving the Rivian. I am sure it will be different fun.

I guess the thought of having to carry an adapter is kind of a bummer, but then again, it’s not really a big deal.

I rally try not to give into fear mongering or political BS, but I plan on keeping the Rivian for a long time.

I will take lots of pictures today.

I live in a Level 3 charging desert and have been fine as I mostly charge at home. There is plenty of storage for adapters. For longer trips it takes some planning but I kind of enjoy that part.

There are a lot of things I worry about but needing an adapter isn't one of them. good luck and enjoy!
