I'm glad there's an "off-topic" board on this site as this is _way_ off topic--but I think there are some people on this forum who can provide a very valuable perspective.

I'm building a home flight simulator cockpit, powered by an XBox Series X running MS Flight Simulator 2024 (which gets released next week--hence the timing of this post). Have any of you built something like this? My "finalists" for the frame are Marada and Next Level, but I'm open to input. Open to all suggestions for other components.

Thanks!

While taking pilot lessons, I built myself a VR version of what you're going for. It was relatively simple: a steam Index, yoke, and rudder pedals. It was much more convincing with Xplane than the high-dollar simulator at my flight school. Enough that you could get nauseous. I would go that direction again, as cost vs realism was next level.

Thanks! What yoke and pedals did you go for? I'm looking at the Turtle Beach yoke and Thrustmaster pedals, but I'm not convinced about either. The yoke is way more important to me than the pedals.

Maybe Rivian can hook you up with an Airwolf costume next Halloween…

If you ever want to make the sim feel even closer to the real thing, trying introductory flying lessons near me gave me a lot of little details I brought back into my setup, especially around trim feel and approach pacing. The mix of simulator time, ground school, and an hour in a Cessna helped me tune my cockpit layout so it felt way more natural.
