Leading up to me taking delivery of my R1T on 5/16, I had read a couple of horror stories of people in situations where they sometimes waited months to receive plates. I've since found myself in the middle of a communication nightmare with Rivian to get to the bottom of the registration for my leased R1T and legally drive my truck again.
I've corresponded with Rivian 29 times in the last 2 and a half weeks leading up to the expiration of my 30 day temporary tag, all of which have lead me down different paths with different answers, and seemingly further from a resolution. Here is a condensed timeline for anybody who may find themselves in a similar situation.
So here I am, Rivian either thinks everything is being worked on at the DMV, has been making things up, or something in between. In either case, nobody seemingly has any idea what is going on, and I get to have the same conversation with Rivian every day to hear the same thing (it's being escalated, we've flagged the urgency, someone will contact you, etc.)
Has anybody found other successful ways of communicating with anybody at Rivian who is actually helpful? I know some of the people I've spoken to are doing their best, but most seem like they aren't in a position to either offer a solution or connect with someone who can. Meanwhile, I now have a 7,000 pound paperweight in my garage that sure is nice to look at, but much more fun to drive.
UPDATE: Plates finally showed up out of nowhere. Hopefully the documentation of my situation helps anybody else in the future that may end up dealing with the same thing.

- 5/16 - took delivery of my R1T and was told I'd receive all necessary paperwork in the mail to take to the DMV to get plates
- 5/24 - Rivian contacted me saying I needed to sign a couple more papers they needed to register the vehicle. They overnighted and I signed and sent back
- 6/5 - after inquiring about the status of the paperwork I was told I'd receive at delivery, they let me know that they actually handle registration and I'd receive my plates in the mail. I inquired about getting a new temp tag just in case the process would extend past the expiration, to which they said no.
- 6/11 - 2 days remaining until expiration. Several phone calls and chats later, they said they'd get me a new temp tag, but to not worry, everything was at the DMV and would be ready "soon"
- 6/13 - Tags expired. Again said everything was almost done and I should be all set "any day now". I also inquired about the new temp tag and they said the DMV likely wouldn't approve a new one. Called Rivian to double check, and they said someone from Title and Registration would call me in 20 minutes and to wait by the phone to make sure I didn't miss it. They never called.
- 6/14 - After several more attempts to reach someone about a vehicle I can no longer legally drive, they set me up with a rental car for the next 5 days.
- 6/17 - To try and make myself feel better about only having a rental for a week, I called the DMV myself to inquire about the status of the registration Rivian had submitted. The DMV told me they had no record of anything.
- 6/18 - Gave the MO DoR another call, they confirmed again the vehicle was not in the system, and to check back in 3 weeks.
- 6/20 - Rivian renewed my rental for an additional week. I had to call Enterprise to confirm they actually made the change (no confirmation from Rivian). I had also asked about getting paperwork (several other local lease owners mentioned to me they had received paperwork to take to the DMV themselves), but got no response.
- 6/25 (am) - Called MO DoR, they said they could see the title had been requested, but couldn't see which documents had been submitted for registration. They instructed me to wait another week or so to check again.
- 6/25 (pm) - my license plates randomly show up from FedEx via a registration processing company based in Ohio.
