TuneIn Radio not playing BBC stations

I have an odd bug with TuneIn Radio — it won't play BBC Radio 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Other stations play fine. Oddly the station shows what is playing, but no audio comes out. It plays fine from my TuneIn radio mobile app and also in my Tesla, so I do not think this is a rights or locale issue.

Has anyone seen this? These are the only stations I listen to and i miss then terribly!

"Alexa, play BBC Radio on TuneIn" works for me and plays BBC World Service News.
"Alexa, play BBC Radio 1 on TuneIn" (or 2, 3, 4, or 5) works at home but not in my R1T.

I have noticed that some other things that work on Alexa at home do not work in the Rivian, which I assume is a DRM issue in the Rivian software.

Ha! I’m not going mad then. As a Brit now living in the US we love listening to BBC Radio 2 around the house on BBC Sounds. Our Echo Show will also play R2 via TuneIn. I can also listen to it on Apple Music. When I get in the R1S and ask Alexa to play R2 she says to turn on location services (they are all on as far as I can see) and in the meantime here is R2 from TuneIn. Then literally radio silence. Just buffers. All BBC radio stations are the same. Ive logged it with Rivian. In the meantime I suggest you download the BBC Sounds app and listen via Bluetooth from your phone. If Rivian ever update me I’ll happily share.

Same here. I have not been able to get BBC Radio 1-5 for a few months now. Only the World Service. Glad I’m not the only one.

Not playing on mine as well. It did this weird loop where a short audio piece keep repeating and wouldn't stop until I did a software reboot.

i’m scared because i imagine this is such a niche bug it’ll never be fixed. i really miss bbc radio 1, 2, 4 and 5!

Annoying right, especially when the Ashes was on. I’ve pretty much given up on TuneIn and just go thru BBC Sounds App.

at least the Rivian tune in radio has stopped recommending that i listen to some strange country music station, nothing more grating when you just want to listen to pete tong!

If it works in your mobile app and everywhere else, it will likely get fixed in the next update as long as they are aware of it. Make sure you all report it!

As I said above, I think this is about digital rights management. I'm not an expert, but I do know that:

1. DRM is done in the player, which is the Rivian software.
2. BBC has been a big proponent of DRM over the years, and this has caused headaches for a lot of player software and people trying to listen to / watch BBC online.
3. BBC also has geographical restrictions on content. If your location can't be determined then you can't access the content. This causes problems when using a VPN, for example.
4. Rivian has said some of their media features need to solve the DRM problem before they can be implemented. (See https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...hcam-bed-camera-turn-signal-camera-etc.14411/ for example).
5. Known DRM-free stations seem to work in the Rivian player.

I have no clue what the sticking points are, but this seems to be a problem for multiple streaming services that we know about, not just BBC, and it seems like Rivian's head of software development is aware of this.

That said, it doesn't hurt to report it. I would ask your guide to forward the question to the appropriate department, or you could try posting on reddit which they seem to monitor.

I emailed customer services and our Guide replied and said to contact the 24 hour service center. i have already flagged the issue when I was speaking to service about a separate issue. I have an appointment at Brooklyn in early December (thankfully for just a small cosmetic issue) so I’ll ask again when I’m there.

i don’t have the latest software update yet … any one know if they fixed this?
