I just DIYed a Tesla J1772 wall connector to power the Rivian. It's charging at 48a fine, but the way it gets there is a little weird to me. Maybe you guys can enlighten me.

I plug it in, white bar, then red bar for about a sec, back to white, and then finally green charging bar. All is well after that. Anyone know why the red bar in the process? Is it just because we've got mixed products here? Tesla wall connector talking to the Rivian?

I used the Rivian mobile connector for a while, and it never did that. White to green and started going.

What Tesla > J1772 adapter are you using?

Not using one. As mentioned, I installed the J1772 version of the Tesla wall connector. It plugs right into the Rivian.

That’s normal operation. The wall connector attempts to make what they call a soft handshake with the vehicle and that’s when you get the red led. After it realizes it is not a Tesla vehicle the charge then begins with flashing green.

have been charging my R1t for a year now works that way every time with any Tesla wall connector

Thanks. That would've been my best guess was because we are mixing companies products here. Appreciate it!
