So maybe half of all R1 are 21”….maybe 30,000+?

For my R1T I had 21". No regrets getting those. For the gen 2 R1S I'm still debating between 22" aero or 20" AT black.

If you are even remotely considering any off road use then it’s an easy call for the 20” AT…
You could always get an aftermarket set but then you have to deal with having Rivian change the geometry/settings…something that is not as simple as it should be…

Nope, pretty much all on road for me. I do snow driving maybe once or twice a year, and the 21s handled plowed road fine, I imagine 22s would be similar.

Then it all comes down to replacement options, are you comfortable with a limited amount of 22” options? Most say the 22s are not as good on bumps/roadfeel…I don’t have any experience with that.

All things being equal, I would get the cheapest option then add a set for ability to have winter/summer setups…if you get same size then you also have spares…

The Continental Terrain Contact and Michelin Defenders seem to be good options for 22s, and both have AT variants I believe if I want a bit better grip. The main reason I'm avoiding the 20s besides the added cost is the extra road noise.
