Hello Folks!

I am interested in the R1S and would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions for wheel size.

I currently drive a BMW iX and prefer a wheel / tire setup that will provide the most comfort / smoothness in ride quality and a quiet cabin. Efficiency will be 2nd on my priority list.

I do not plan to take the R1S off-road. At most, I may traverse on some short distance trails to find a campground 2-3 times a year.

It looks like the 21” wheels is the best option but will be costly to replace at 15-25K miles.

Thanks in advance.

I have not gone through the tire replacement process yet, but I was faced with the same decision when I chose my spec, and I went with the 21" for the efficiency (>95% road miles for me), road noise, and comfort.

My hope is that by the time I have to replace them, there will be more options in the 21" size, but even if not, they're cheaper to replace than my staggered 19" BMW fitment and the Scorpion Verdes aren't bad tires.

Sounds like the Michelin Defender is now available in the 21” size, that will be a game changer…but even so, it makes sense to get the 20” rims since there are nearly 100 different options available. Vast majority here have stuck with the 20” or moved to it from 21/22”… on the plus side, just go with the 21” wheels and you can always add a 20” set for ~$2-3k…
