Evening. The engine in my beloved MB Metris van decided to grenade itself 2 weeks ago. I daily drove it to and from my job (I own a cafe) and honestly loved having the functionality of a van. Replacing the engine is proving to be throwing good money after bad on a 10 year old van so here we are. After getting the blessings of my accountant I have decided to pursue an R1T as the next business vehicle. I've done some initial poking around on the forums trying to make sense of what to look for or steer clear of but I'm fully open to advice or suggestions. It looks like some early '22s might be a touch more problematic, but that could also be a roll of the dice. I don't necessarily need a quad motor or any of the specific off-road packages that I've seen offered. We do make a 2+ hour drive from the SJ suburbs to the Poconos a couple times a month so the large battery pack is kinda the minimum.

I've done the cursory CarGurus/CarMax searches, and sure enough there are enough R1Ts out there but that really feels a touch risky with a niche brand like Riv. Feel free to chime in with suggestions, resources, etc.

Thanks!

It is a bit risky. Especially if the investment in a Rivian going bad could be detrimental to your business. If you get a solid build it’s a great vehicle. Love mine

I just bought my 22' R1T used from a dealer and have to say my experience during the hunt was a little up and down, but ended up being a good overall experience. I've loved Rivian and the company for years and always wanted one (being a truck guy and also an EV guy).

Be careful on what dealers you look for. Research and ask questions of them before going to look at them and take the time to test drive a few so you can make sure you recognize if there are underlying issues. Video walk arounds help as well and the honest ones will show you any imperfections. I also kept an eye on reviews and BBB ratings for the dealers because several I found in my area(even all the way up in IN and KY) were being sold by local used shops that had very poor ratings/reviews. I ended up buying mine from a GM dealership so the process was smooth and the salesman knew enough about the truck to answer all my questions before going out there. I think the bigger thing is that these are relatively so much newer to the used market that a lot of dealers don't know what they're completely dealing with. The change of ownership process with Rivian went smooth and only took a few days.

there were a couple things I had to do when I bought it (couple new tires, and I'm bringing it into the service center for a standard warranty inspection they benchmark at various mileage milestones).

Overall, I had a great experience, have a great truck and loving driving it every day. Just do your homework and make sure you're comfortable with who you're buying from.

Joe, I am responding to your post about looking to buy a Rivian R1T. I have been on the fence about listing my 2022 R1T for sale because I hate the thought of going back to an ICE vehicle, and I do not like any other available EV pick-ups. This truck has been the best truck I have ever owned. In the 2 years I have owned this truck, the only maintenance issues have been rotating the tires twice, and replacing the windshield wipers, and that's it. The truck is not perfect, but I don't think the perfect truck even exists. The three minor issues I have with this truck are just that, minor. (1) I wish the 60/40 back seats folded flat for more convenient cargo transport (including dogs). (2) I wish the windshield wiper arms could fold out to make cleaning the windshield easier. (3) I wish the trailer hitch receiver, and all related connection points, were not buried so far under the rear of the truck. This makes hooking up my trailer more of a pain in the ass than it needs to be. Other than those three minor complaints, it has really been the best truck I have ever owned. Mine is the Quad motor, L.A. Silver, Dark Ocean interior. It has just about 13,000 miles, stock 21" Pirelli's with full size spare that has been rotated with the other 4 tires. The truck also has the all weather front and rear floor mats and the stock Rivian level 1 and 2 charger. Also included will be a set of Rivian cargo bars and a custom modified bed rack system I installed for carrying longer items. I am located in Connecticut, about 20 miles past New Haven, close to I95. I will try and post more photos this weekend in the required format for actually listing the truck for sale. Thank you.
