I got another handy tool to watch and transfer DriveCam, GearGuard, and Dash Cam videos on my iPhone. I chose the official Apple reader and I can confirm it works. There are off-brand cheaper options, but I can't guarantee they will work.

To access the memory cards, you need to use the "Files" app on the iPhone. Once the app is open, go to Browse and plug in the SD Card reader. You will see the drive appear and you can navigate to the videos, play them or transfer them without the need for a computer.

I just connect my iPhone via WiFi to my BlackVue dashcam in the Rivian to watch recorded videos with no fisheye effect and where I can easily read license plates.

Can you play them back on the truck? I haven't gotten the update yet. I would hope you can do playback in the truck itself, and then you could always plug into a laptop or desktop computer to export if the situation arises. I can't see a use case for this, maybe I'm missing something.

With the many USB-C storage products on the market, this will be a good feature for those who plan to upgrade to iPhone 15, which will be supporting USB-C (but actually Thunderbolt 3), allowing USB-C devices to connect directly to iPhone.

Albeit most Android users can, and have been able to, do this for some time now.

Apparently you couldn’t tell that my comment was a slight against Rivian, not the OP - they could have installed much better cameras knowing that they would eventually be an integral part of dashcam functionality.

I guess there is confusion about why you would need this.

- Text, and email videos while on the road after an incident.
- Share videos with other motorists if you record an incident.
- Upload videos to the cloud like Google Drive or OneDrive while on the road.
- Trim and edit videos directly on the iPhone

I personally would rather upload videos directly to the cloud from my iPhone and when I'm at my computer, they are ready for me to do whatever with.

Someday maybe they can just let you upload them to the cloud from the car ui/ux. I'm sure they didn't want the potential bandwidth cost.

Do you want the potential bandwidth cost priced into your vehicle?

All it would really have to do is upload the clip to some sort of object storage / viewer platform / google drive and e-mail you the link when done. App-based playback and saving would be neat though.

It would be great if you can connect to your own cloud storage, but since they are using Alexa, I wouldn't even mind having it upload footage to Amazon Photos when connected to WiFi. This would allow a fast review of video from your mobile device if you use it as a hotspot for the truck and review the videos on the Amazon Photos app.

I love that the dash cam feature finally came out but it doesn't seem to record all the time despite the 128 gb thumbdrive I have plugged in. Is that a setting we can change?
