A car hauler carrying Kia electric vehicles overturned and caught fire on Interstate 10 in Tucson, leading to significant traffic disruptions, according to social media reports on Facebook. [1]
  • Location: The incident occurred on eastbound I-10 near the Craycroft Road exit.
  • Incident Details: The truck, which was transporting at least two Kia EVs on its upper deck, overturned and resulted in a fire.
  • Impact: The eastbound lanes of I-10 were closed, with witnesses reporting heavy smoke in the area, specifically near Vail.
  • Concerns: Observers noted the difficulty of managing potential EV battery fires in areas without immediate fire hydrant access. [1]
This is a developing situation.

I'm not going to click through the FB link. Did the EVs catch fire when the truck crashed or was it the truck itself? Why is this news, probably (and regrettably) happens every day someplace. I could care less what "observers" think about managing emergencies like this.

How much less could you care? Do you care a LOT and therefore could care a lot less? Or care just a little bit and could care just a little bit less? Wait, never mind, I couldn't care less.

This is news because EV BAD EV DIFFERENT SCARY EV!

It's news for everyone who sat and waited on I 10 while a fire raged in the median. It's news to the firefighters who had to consider the hazards of a fire with a risk of lithium battery involvement. It's news to the friends and family of the person who perished in the accident. It should be news to anyone who transports evs and may need to address a situation like this someday. I seriously doubt that this happens somewhere everyday as you contend. I personally own 4 evs and will never purchase another Ice vehicle. And it's news to me because I live in Tucson and do appreciate the possibility of ev fires and the difference and difficulty in extinguishing them.
At the time of the posting of this story the details were not known other than that there were evs on the trailer of a truck that had overturned and caught fire. It appears they did not become involved in the fire as of more recent updates. When there is a fire that may involve evs it becomes news not because evs are more likely to catch fire (they are not) but because the hazards of an ev fire are greater than those of non ev auto fires and are more similar to hazmat fires.
Interesting how just reporting a fire possibly involving evs can evoke such defensive responses. They do occur either as primary or secondary events and do need to be addressed.

Why assume defensiveness? Many of us are simply tired of the massively anti-EV/anti-Tesla mainstream news and the constant reporting of things like this which raise fear without providing any context or followup.

Everyone who read that story thought, "OMG EV FIRES KILL." Almost nobody will read this...
It appears they did not become involved in the fire

So, just to put a bit of gas on this fire, the title of the post isn't accurate? There was no EV fire in Tucson. There was a truck accident that caused a lot of people to have a really bad day and there just happened to be two EV Kias on the truck. I'd be a whole lot more worried about ruptured and leaking gas tanks on all the other cars than the two EVs. But no, there was an EV fire in Tucson.

The original post was information that was available at the time of the fire . News outlets routinely post breaking news and then hopefully post updates as they are available. I assure you the fact that evs were on a trailer that was engulfed in flames was and is news to many or most. Downplay it as you may based on your own biases. I worked emergency medicine for 35 years. Stories like this get the attention of all primary responders.

Sad.

Exactly.
Take the time to read my posts fully and learn something. What is sad is your entrenchment in denialism of the significance of this potentially hazardpous event. But you no doubt could have fixed it with your plug kit.

This thread is a perfect example of why I miss the early days of this forum. It used to be 99% constructive conversation - it's getting harder to sift through the emotional keyboard antics.

Is everyone in this thread a motorcycle rider? If "CBR" in "cbrcanuck" refers to the Honda motorcycle line. CBR1100XX here.

Yup, throwback to my 2001 CBR600 (my first road legal bike - good memories!)
