HALF the performance colors are "premium" at 2k. Ridiculous. You really gonna make black a premium color? R1 owners are willing to pay for colors but that's a completely different market. All the model Ys on the roads are white for a reason. There will be tons of Esker Silvers on the road. I expected Catalina Cove to be costly, but like others said, most ix3 colors are 600 with ONE premium color at 3k+.

In case anyone at Rivian Product Planning reads this, I would have wanted a Premium with 19" wheels, sunroof delete (like iX3), purple exterior, and an warmer tone/cleanable interior that's not drab confining black or dirt-magnet white. Why restrict wheel size? Look at Volvo EX60 or BMW iX3 interiors. Moving on...

Can’t understand why matching Tesla’s rip off option pricing model is considered OK. The R2 is intended to attract the mass market (EV propulsion not withstanding) and therefore will get compared to more mainstream vehicles which have modest paint options. EVs too, as evidenced by BMW and Hyundai.

Paying $3k for paint and interior color is a real turn off right out of the gate.

Sooooo, it's not a confirmed order, they only confirmed that you have a reservation. An order isn't an order until it's a signed and completed order (i.e. you received an email saying it's ordered).

Bc Tesla is their main competition and it's the market rate? These legacy OEM's people keep talking about with their $650 paint or whatever cost more money at MSRP than R2 does. So sure buy an iX3 for $61.5k starting MSRP + $650 paint lol. R2 is still cheaper and this is the highest trim at $57,990. Premium trim is $53,990. BMW interior upgrade is also $1,500 so even more than R2.

I understand that iX3 paint options are comparably inexpensive but what does BMW charge for a redesign that makes the vehicle attractive? Pleasantly surprised we can get Borealis for 2k.
