It’s frustrating but expected. This was targeted as a 100k vehicle. Unfortunately when Elon announced the 40k CT Rivian slashed their price, but started decontenting. At 75-80k this was one of the best deals on the planet for what you get. At 95, it’s still solid for the price.

That being said, the method of doing this is poor. It did say everywhere that there’s no guarantee of price. I expected a 3-7k increase, once the tax credit was preserved for the year. While it’s frustrating, if 75 -> 85 causes too much financial strain, you couldn’t afford it anyways. Everything is up insanely now. Both guys printed trillions. Inflation is rampant and the market is about to correct.

mostly from this, I’m sad for Rivian. If they could’ve gotten in pre pandemic, thered be 2 years of market share. But they missed that and this could be the final nail. Stock will tumble (I’m sad, have 400 shares) and the sqwaking Will be loud. The sad part is they have a GREAT,WORLD BEATING PRODUCT. This isn’t vaporware. They were so close.

I’m still in for now.
I agree with most of what you said except that as I've just read 40 pages of posts it seems most config's are increasing not $10K but $12-15K this represents a sizeable increase by % and at some point even buyers who could afford a $120K vehicle will bow out on the shear fact that it has lost a lot of it's value proposition. Most medium-high or high wealth people don't get that way by making decisions they judge to be in poor value. Some will cancel simply out of spite for the fact they feel they were wronged.
I doubt this was an easy decision for Rivian brass but that doesn't mean they should get off the hook for the dismal execution of this change. IMO heads should roll... but maybe that is just me making rash judgement on bad news before I've slept on it.

I'm definitely scared to comment here ?

But before I share, I just wanted to say that I feel for everyone affected by the price increases. Even if you knew it could happen, it sucks to hear this so close to delivery - especially if you need a new vehicle or got rid of your old one.

I got very, very lucky.

I'm not sure if I want to congratulate you or hate your guts.

Today is weird.

Edit: Would you have continued if you were hit with a minimum $12,000 price increase?

This was definitely coming. Everyone is facing pricing pressure. Unreasonable to think a price of something ordered in 2018 would stay flat into 2023. They have enough demand to do even more price increases over next year or so and still keep factory humming. Will likely limit flippers as the “profit” will be a bigger gamble.
It’s a 2018 vehicle …..

Envisioning a board table where they are debating how to deliver the latest, we are not going to deliver your vehicle for another xx months, or quarters in the upcoming quarterly earnings report.

Then some genius says hey let’s mark these up 20% to deposit holders - problem solved.

Remember when Laura Schwab (toxic boys club lawsuit) was listing examples of advice she gave that was ignored by the higher ups?

One of those pieces of advice was: we can’t afford to sell these vehicles at this price.

“Time and time again, I raised concerns regarding vehicle pricing and manufacturing deadlines, but no one listened, even though I have extensive experience launching and pricing vehicles.“

As I recall folk here were too busy attacking her character to heed her warning.

Can’t say we didn’t see this coming. But what a massive f-up.

Elon is saying, "come to papa" right now...haha.
Nah, there will be a price increase on Cybertruck as well. Tesla will probably handle it better.
