Can someone explain what going to dual motor vs. quad motor really does for a 90 percent pavement cruiser (albeit all 4 season weather)?
Difference in HP and Torque (which is still a lot for dual motors), possible maintenance (less motors and associated components to them), lack of Tank Turning (if/when that gets implemented) as the dual motor variant will not have that capacity to rotate the wheels in the proper direction. All in all the quad-motor is more a want than a need for 'pavement cruisers' as you put it.

SOB. This email reads to me that everyone but LE are seeing price increases to existing reservations.
I agree, the letter does not mention LE. Lets hope that correct. It would not be good for them to put people through these long delays, then when it finally gets close, throw in a $10, 000 increase.

And watch all the impulsive cancellations get caught with their pants down who now have no chance of recovering their place in line? That would be cynically hilarious ?

Still, I do wish people would hold off from cancelling till the dust settles and see what the actual final outcome of this is.
Unfortunately, I think this may be how it settles.

Any kind of rollback is not likely, could they come up with a discount code for preorder holders to save some money, possible but not likely.

There will be a lot of frustrated people but the price is still reasonable for what is being delivered. They are having supply issues getting these built but still will sell every one that they build. Might even make some other people order now because the new price seems like a higher end vehicle.

This explains how they were going to deliver all the launch editions and adventure trims so quickly. Seems like it was planned since before IPO.

I am a 2019 LE and I got the price increase email a few minutes ago and my account online is showing it now as well.

Reservation 8/2019. LE R1T LG Off-Road Upgrade 20" AT.

Received the email this morning saying "since you are in the final steps of completing your transaction, your Rivian preorder will not be affected by these adjustments."

When I logged in this afternoon the ? icon allowed me to see my Guide contact information for the first time (at least that I've noticed). I reached out and have a call scheduled for Friday.

Also, when I logged in this afternoon and went into my configurator, the Launch Edition price had increased to "Starting at $85,000".

Now, this evening, my configurator is locked. I cannot make any adjustments. My Summary shows the Launch Edition price at $73,000. No additional charge noted for Large Pack or for Quad Motor.

All this to say that I would recommend waiting on canceling until you get more clarity on your pricing. I'm confused and I'll update this after I speak to my guide and determine if my total was impacted or not.

My LE went from just under 80k to 92k. It says the power tonneau is included though. Funny how they got rid of the "off road package" and now separate the tow hooks (included) and underbody shield.

I might have to remove the shield and tent to save 5k. Feels like this company is run by circus clowns. ?

Bottom line, it sure seems like Rivian treated the goodwill of its advance vehicle depositors with bad faith.

It unfortunately matters less how great the vehicles could be.

I may feel a bit different in the morning, but will likely then be fretting about being a stockholder who got this news after the market close late this afternoon.

Now this is new to me. Are there really people out there that would order a product soley because it costs more? That to me is mind-boggling ?

Some of you can move up one spot on the list. I will be bailing out just like the share holders. There will likely be many more price increases before they actually start building mine. So much for being an early Rivian customer. Adios

I legit dont trust Customer Service so until I get 1000% confirmation mine will increase (reflective on my page) I WILL NOT cancel.
What does it really say that we can't trust customer service?

I go back and forth on cancelling now or waiting. I know for sure if these prices stand I have zero intention of fulfilling my order. I also think that mass cancellations send a message. However, I also concur with the sentiment of rug-pulling Rivian back. Go through with your order, get it delivered, keep the mileage under 1k, and on day 6 tell them you want a full refund. Of course that all depends on the particulars of the return agreement.

Turnabout is fair play.
