So, with the new pricing, what advantage LE has over Adventure?
If I configure Adventure equivalent to my LE config, it's only $500 more.

(EDIT, I guess $500 it is for being an early holder)

So they are saying standard battery pack is now 2024 delivery. But I changed the configuration to large battery + dual motor and it still says 2024 delivery. I changed the configuration to large battery + quad motor and it still says 2024 delivery. So it doesn’t matter what version you buy??

I don't think you understand the position this puts us in. My order USED to be $73,500 for an explore with the large pack and a camp kitchen plus the stock wheels and paint.

My order is NOW $93,500, 20 FUCKING THOUSAND DOLLARS INCREASE??? $400/ MONTH is NOT a reasonable increase!
You should’ve had a more realistic assessment of a startup company that until late 2021 had never manufactured a vehicle before. It sounds like a lot of people were expecting something that was frankly unrealistic to begin with. I didn’t place a reservation until late 2021 because I didn’t think they could deliver and what do you know???

I still have 3 reservations. Just drop your stupid camp kitchen, you can get something similar for $100 BTW just not that cool, and bring your reservation back in line with what it was before. That’s reality, sorry.

My R1S configuration was updated to 7-seat which is something I neither need nor want. I don't understand how that controls production costs. Other than that.. my configuration remained the same and my new price went from $74k to $91k -- a 23% price increase!!!

I'd be open to the new dual-motor and standard battery options to lower the price, but adding yet another year until those configurations begin shipping in 2024 is a deal breaker. And what's to stop Rivian from dramatically increasing the price again during that 2+ year period.

I contacted customer service and the rep said they were completely blindsided by the price changes too. They were informed to promote more control on configurations (with dual-motor and standard battery options) to angry customers. Rep even said.. I would be very upset too.

Also, as a shareholder, the impact of these pricing changes is going to have a big hit to my investment in this company. After hours trading is already down and I expect Rivian to take a major hit in share price over the coming days as this news circulates and many pre-orders are cancelled.

The new pricing probably pushes me out. There are plenty of other new offerings coming available or next year from well established luxury brands at lower price points. Someone needs to fire the product managers and pricing staff that came up with this imbecilic scheme.

Totallly upset. They said large battery pack was included in the Adventure Package. Now they are charging $6000 for the large battery. They said 0-60 in 3 seconds. Now they are charging $6000 for quad motor. That’s a $12,000 difference. Ocean interior was free and now it’s $2000. That’s a $14,000 difference. Not included the increase in the Adventure Pack. $95k now from $78k
Don't forget the $3k tonneau cover.

And just how popularly known do you think the Rivian is? Just because we here know about it does not mean the rest of the world is just as informed. I still see plenty of videos, met ups, and people asking "what (the heck) is a Rivian?" How many has Rivian produced? How focused are they right now to rapidly increase production rates? Do you really think when them focused hard on that, leasing in on their minds at the moment? No, realistically it's not.

My point is: Most companies that are still this new into production mode won't offer lease options until they ramp up their capacity to the point of having enough vehicles to offer for a lease. Anyone expecting more this soon is going to have their expectations completely shattered as it is unrealistic.
World's #3 carmaker by value can't afford to offer leasing, oh boy. This is not "MOsT cOmpAnIes". Stop with the excuses. I could care less anyway my order is CANCELED. Peace.

FYI - Just received an email from my guide confirming that my price was locked in at $76,750.

Hopefully, there is good news coming to everyone.

Reservation 8/2019. LE R1T LG Off-Road Upgrade 20" AT.

Received the email this morning saying "since you are in the final steps of completing your transaction, your Rivian preorder will not be affected by these adjustments."

When I logged in this afternoon the ? icon allowed me to see my Guide contact information for the first time (at least that I've noticed). I reached out and have a call scheduled for Friday.

Also, when I logged in this afternoon and went into my configurator, the Launch Edition price had increased to "Starting at $85,000".

Now, this evening, my configurator is locked. I cannot make any adjustments. My Summary shows the Launch Edition price at $73,000. No additional charge noted for Large Pack or for Quad Motor.

All this to say that I would recommend waiting on canceling until you get more clarity on your pricing. I'm confused and I'll update this after I speak to my guide and determine if my total was impacted or not.

This seemed pretty inevitable. If you knew anything about Rivian pre 2021 you knew they were at best walking a thin line between being the next Tesla and being the next Fisker. This was fairly predictable given the basic economics for EVs and the raw cost calculations that you could have easily done on the R1T/S. The thing has a huge battery pack that’s around 30% larger than a Model S/X and priced 20% less?? ADD ON up to 50%+ raw inputs inflation etc and you have what, only a 15% price jump?

They obviously could not have anticipated raw material costs skyrocketing like they have in 2020-2022 and this seems like a difficult decision that was probably in the works for many months. I’ve been saying all along they had negative margins with their supposed pricing and this was just proof. So if they’re acknowledging reality then they’re not stupid and are doing their best to turn things around. If they can repair their brand and scale then they might survive.

For similar money (ie $75k + $10k ADM (if you’re lucky) you can buy a Bronco Raptor that is slower and uses gas, for more money you can get a Defender V8 that is also slower and uses gas, etc. etc. It’s definitely a bait and switch so I get the outrage but at the end of the day it’s still pretty cheap compared to the competition.

$85k for a quad motor spec gets you 0-60 times in the neighborhood of $150k+ supercars and the off road capability of a Defender? There are people who pay $275k+ for G wagens and $150k for Porsche Taycan crossovers. If you’re a launch edition reservation holder you should just sell your reservation rather than cancel it because you probably still have $15k in arbitrage. The first Bronco sold for almost $200k and First Edition Broncos are being purchased by dealers at auction for $80k+ aka $15k over MSRP.

There’s a lot of overreacting here. Some people here don’t understand money at all and basically just threw away a bunch of it by cancelling their very early reservation (because they are (justifiably) pissed off). Even if you couldn’t afford the Rivian at the new price maybe you could still make enough flipping it to give yourself $10k-$15k off another vehicle of your choice. It’s still a winning proposition if you understood the basic numbers…

Check Tesla price increases – similar percentage increases. The US economy, supply side economics, logistics … this is the first of what I expect to be price increases keeping pace with Tesla and reflecting a production-constrained business with demand far exceeding production capacity. I doubt it will resolve in 2022 or 2023. Rivian is a premium priced niche luxury lifestyle consumer discretionary purchase – not competing with a Lightning or Silverado any time soon.

Holy CRAP! I was expecting a price increase (because of inflation and production shortages), but I was thinking it would be more like 5,000. I got an update that my explore with the large pack and camp kitchen went from $73,500 to $93,500 PLUS $1,500 in delivery fee PLUS $750 wall charger. The 20" Wheels went from $1500 to $3500.

THIS IS NUTS.

Unfortunately this is still worth it to me, trading my Rubicon and my 430i Gran Coupe at the same time for this vehicle + 10K down. However, now I will have a $385/month payment where before I would've had a paid off Rivian. I got rid of ALL of the options to bring the price down to where I can still afford it.

I'm going to hang around for a bit, just to see if they correct their obvious mistake and reduce the increase to something I can understand (like $5,000 or less)

I'm now very disappointed and ONE MORE FUCKING INCREASE and I'm out.

Same for me. Seems like they drew the line pretty close on preserving pricing or not. My r1s delivery window is April so I thought it may be honored but cs confirmed that it will not be. Saw the increase in my online profile as of this evening. Interestingly, the cs agent also said there are no r1s vehicles that qualify for the original price but I think they are generally left in the dark as much as we are :). I imagine those poor folks are getting slammed by angry preorder holders. I feel for them as it wasn’t their decision.

my best guess is I benefited from having a guide and delivery window before I moved my vehicle to an S

Yeah, other companies have at least a decade's worth of production experience under their belt. And btw, what excuse? Name one company that within their first months of going in production mode offered lease options? Sorry that you're that unhappy with Rivian that you feel like you need to bow out and cancel, but don't feed me that nonsense. They're struggling to meet the sale demands they currently have. Lease is the last thing on their minds at the moment. The expectation of leasing this early is unrealistic, no matter what color you want to paint it.
