Until recently I used the navigation feature (GPS) to see what roads/routes were in the area I was exploring. Also, it was nice to see where chargers were (and get details about the chargers). But, now the navigation feature is not available unless you click "allow", which sends your precise location "to Rivian and its service providers". What if you'd rather not share your location? Sorry, there's no opt-out option. I'm surprised a progressive company like Rivian would require this invasion of privacy to use the navigation feature. Is anyone else concerned about sharing everywhere they go with who knows who? [note: I keep location sharing *off* on my phone-- at least I'm able to do that!]

FWIW - I was doing an R2 test drive this morning (for the sixth time) and when I launched the nav I got this same screen. I tapped allow, over and over, and it just stalled. Never could get to the nav screen to use it. I assumed it's a bug.

I’m not that important. If someone wants to breach my privacy and follow my location, have at it!

Absolutely, I totally agree! I could navigate just fine with the GPS on my R1T before now. I could find my vehicle just fine before now. I, like you, could find chargers with what was on my Rivian as is. Really do not want everyone and his brother tracking me. Don't feel it's necessary for people I do not know to have access constantly to my location. And to what end? It doesn't help in getting service for my vehicle, allow my vehicle to function better because strangers know where I am 24/7. In particular, I am a woman who does some extensive driving on my own. And, like you, I agree that an advanced and progressive company like Rivian should have an "opt out" option. Don't tell me "AI is inevitable", look at Thanos.

You know, identifying your location is the entire point of GPS, right? You have to give them permission, but it should be pretty obvious that they need your location for the service to work. The whole "and Rivian partners" refers to Google, specifically Google Maps, which Rivian is using for navigation.

It sends your location so it can do online navigation that's dependent on traffic, etc. If you are that worried about your personal data, perhaps buying a car from a software forward company is not for you.

That is a result of people suing companies for actually having to know your location to do anything worthwhile. Nothing to worry about. I doubt Rivian is selling your location to anybody.

I am very concerned that others might find out just how mundane and predictable my daily life is. Home-Office-Gym-Home. M-F rinse and repeat.

Well... some folks may want to see where they are in real time, but maps do not need location data to work. Google Maps shows all kinds of info WITHOUT my location data. Apple does it on their phones... w/o location data. Why can't Rivian?

Oh like back when I used Waze on carplay. I leave home, it automatically started navigating to work. I leave work? Home. I have other things in my life, thank you.

Maps don’t but GPS to show your location on a map does. Apple built their own maps, so 1st party sharing. Rivian did not, so 3rd party sharing. And just recently, Apple started serving ads on said maps, so guess what? They are using your location data for something other than helping you locate yourself.

That's a good example of why I'd rather not share location data.

But you did share your location data with Apple. Turn the location off on your iPhone once, then try to navigate somewhere.
