Except that they didn't disclose they were planning a change that would materially impact their ability to retain a large number of their existing customer base. Honestly, that's what pisses me off. It's that it's clear (to me at least) that they were aware of this, and didn't disclose it 6 months ago.

Since the Nov '18 reveal, Rivian has neglected to publish price expectations and should have followed the market, updating the price incrementally as the market moved.

What have you been smoking? The price expectations have been published on their website for the last 3 years...

Somewhat ironically, I think Rivian has inadvertently "culled and qualified" it's sales leads (pre-order queue.) I think Rivian will have a clear view of real pre-orders and new customers placing a pre-order will have a more realistic expectation of price and expected delivery.

Joke is on them. I fully intend to keep my spot in line until it's my turn and only then will I cancel. Partly due to curiosity but mainly to give Rivian one last giant middle finger ?

However itemizing risks in the S-1 is not the same thing as one (or more) of those risks occurring, with availability of specific numbers, such as a 50% (made up for this example) loss of preorders within a few days period, that would certainly impact investors' decisions.

On top of that, they're saying the tonneau cover is no longer included in the Adventure and Explore packages and the price of, "other options, upgrades and accessories have increased." I guess we'll have to see what the total increase will be.

I think we'll know the number of pre-orders that were shaken out at the 21Q4 earnings on 3/10. I'm guessing the number of cancelled pre-orders is in the dozens or hundreds.

Great read referencing Rivian knowing a price increase was eminent and decided to hold on until post-IPO.

Also stock is -21% since announcement.

For some reason, my LE R1T is still showing the powered tonneau as “included” with no upcharge even though the email indicated it would now be a costed option.

I know it’s the last thing you guys want to hear, but as some of you know I was supposed to join rivian next week. I am now rethinking about my job.

I don’t have an order , but I have been in the forum since Nov when I started the interview process, & have started to internalize the anticipation, excitement, frustrations for company & product expressed in this forum, I felt part of the community even though I don’t know anything about you folks other than your love for the product. I felt happy for folks here when the customer deliveries were finally starting.

Now to see the folks who loved rivian so much turn against it, I can’t help but feel the same disappointment. I keep staring into the void, not knowing what I am doing. I don’t know if I want to join rivian which seems to have let down it’s most loyal customers or disappoint my hiring manager who is eager for me to join. I spoke to my manager about the recent news, it didn’t make me feel any better I am at a loss…

What did the hiring manager say that was not reassuring. You should not take the job and tell them why. They need to be hit on multiple levels to realize they fucked up.

Vehicle base pricing and the cost of certain options, upgrades and accessories have increased. All packages of the R1S will now only be offered in a 7-seat configuration.

The system is designed to excel both off-road and on-road, going from 0-60 mph in as few as 4.0 seconds while still delivering all-wheel traction. Deliveries are planned to begin in 2024. We are also introducing our 260+ mile range Standard battery pack, with deliveries planned to begin in 2024.* Dual-Motor AWD and Standard battery pack are available now in our configurator, where you can find more information on each.

There is a Producer Price Index for Motor Vehicles which provides great insight on industry inflation. I can see 3-7% over the last 3-5 years. That I could understand. Anything more is either poor management and opportunistic. I thought differently of Rivian. I truly hope they modify the approach.
