Had to stop watching at the introduction of that hideous front grille.. and that's coming from a current BMW owner (also owned three previous BMW gassers).

Saw this BMW Born Electric display at Indian Wells tennis tourney last week.

Baffled why certain EV’s insist on the ugly duckling design differentiator, but that explains the IX exterior. Interior is top notch.

On the other hand, the I4 M50 looks spectacular.

The iX M60 is actually very high on my list, at the level of the Rivian.

One big concern about the iX, and maybe you can confirm from your test, is that you don't have a hitch on which you can install a bike rack. At least the European models I saw (in Bjorn's video) only had this ball that folds underneat.

No bike rack option would be a deal breaker for me.
So there is no tow hitch or tow arm on the iX. Apparently even though the iX has a tow rating, apparently they are not rated of towing in Canada. Not sure what that means.

It does have the option to add a roof rack but it’s a dealer install option and my SA said she will get back with prices.

Thanks for checking.

I must say I'm speechless. That you cannot put a bike rack is one thing. That you cannot even tow anything then I just don't see the point of this form factor over a car, other than sitting slightly higher. I think I'll head over to the BMW forums see what people have to say about this.

Yeah, I found it surprising too, but personally this is not a deal breaker for me as I never tow anything. Having the option to install a roof rack is enough for me.

I went to the BMW forums to read more about this limitation. Looks like one has to turn to custom hitch installations, the same way some people put a hitch on a Model S or model 3.

My BMW SA called me and said my allocation is up and I can finalize my configuration and it will go into production.

Now that is what I call a ramp up! Put a reservation in January 2022, was told based on production target Fall 2022 into Spring 2023, and now they are ready!
Talk about 'under promise and over deliver'

But since my plan is for Spring 2023, they were OK to give my allocation to someone else and put me down for April - May 2023.

Also, MY has been changed to 2023 from 2022, with a $3000 price increase.

345 miles on the 70mph range test. No other SUV even comes close. Based on their R1T test with the 20" off-road tires (254 mile range) I'm guessing the R1S with 21" tires (longest range) would do around 285 miles. Well short of the iX.

I still need to see one in person to judge the looks, but overall it's an impressive SUV.

The conditions for the R1T were much worse for Tom’s test. Out of spec got 289 miles on 20” wheels. I think the R1S on 21” can get 320+ in ideal conditions on conserve mode.

I didn't realize that. Makes me feel better about the R1S.
