Rivian R1T R1S Rivian iOS App - Battery Usage Screenshot_20220326-223703~2

We spent about 4 hours driving today, and I noticed my phone dying toward the end, unusually early in the day. It does seem like excessive battery use.

From page 12 of the owners manual only phone as a key has passive capabilities.
yes, I understand that…. But the manual has been proven wrong in some ways, and an owner claimed fob was actually active so I was asking for another real-world data point.

No offense intended. Was just reading the manual after seeing your post and sharing what was in there.

I'll add to this, I wanted to retest after you posted.

It appears the fob may have some active component as I walked up to the vehicle with just the fob and the vehicle 'woke up' (brake lights flashed, charger reconnected) but did not unlock. I have gear guard turned off so it should not be a camera waking it up and the yeti did not greet me after repeated pulls on the door handle.

Well I get nothing with my key fob if I walk around my truck. It only has ’active’ function as far as I can tell, meaning in order to lock/unlock the doors you have to ’actively’ press the buttons.

While with the app and my iPhone it ‘passively‘ unlocks the doors just being in proximity.

That is what I am seeing at least.

I found this thread after I posted about the 6 bluetooth profiles that my R1T is using on my iPhone 13. It's basically keeping 6 bluetooth connections alive at all times. No wonder it's killing the phone battery. I really hope this fix this and just use a single bluetooth connection soon. As it is, I turn off bluetooth now while I'm in the house just to keep my phone from being drained and the car from constantly thinking I'm nearby. And mind you, I'm not even very close to the car.

Please open a case on this with Rivian Service. When I opened mine originally, it was a ''new' issue. Hopefully it won't be so new soon.

Just saw 1.3.1 available with big fixes and performance improvements. Maybe battery usage included. Downloading now

I've actually given up on the phone as a key because of this issue. My phone used to last almost 2 days, now I'm lucky if I get 12 hours with the rivian app running.

It even happened when I was on the other side of the country from my truck, constant battery drain till I force closed the app.

App just updated today, 5/3/2022, to version 1.4.0. Looking forward to update from @CarMAN3 et al as to wether or not the update fixes this phone-related battery draining issue.

Well, the version history detail certainly isn't promising. I think it may be more of an issue with truck software vs Rivian app software. The last truck software upgrade, 2022.11.2 made no change.

I did speak with service on this topic in more detail about 2 weeks ago. They asked if I am within 300ft of the truck throughout the day.
