Length and size of wire most likely. Efficiency could actually be pretty close without them putting a massive 12V wire all the way to the bed. 150A on 12V versus 15A on 120V. I still might look into running 12V to the bed myself though.
That amperage means both pull same KwHr from battery?

If whatever bus they pull 12v from is in the middle somewhere length is moot, no?

after all, there’s 12V all the way to the very end of the truck for trailer wiring.

Energy consumed would be identical. I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up pulling the same amount from the HV battery.

It's pretty cold here today, so the fridge doesn't need to work very hard to keep the temperature at the setpoint. I'd love to actually measure the amount of energy the HV battery needs to supply but it would be a lot of work.

Typically fused at 30A or so. Wire size is dramatically different between 150 and 30A.

For drain purposes, pretty similar? Whuch one puts less stress on vehicle/system?

There actually is 12V running the full length of the vehicle (right below the bed) because they have the jump leads accessible by the receiver hitch. It would not have been much cost/effort to put a 12V plug accessible in the bed.

Why would they put a 150a 12v cigarette litter style plug in the bed? Wouldn’t 30 or 50a be sufficient?

Manual says those are rated for 15A continuous and 30A peak. That's not a traditional jump rating, more of a 12V charger rating.

120V just makes it a lot easier to provide a lot of power.

Sure, but why not have a 12v socket back there too. It’s not a crazy amount of wiring, so there must be some other reason for its exclusion..

I use the term "jump" colloquially, here. There is no ICE engine to "jump start"; no high-current starter motor to power. You just need enough current to get the 12V system online and the computer(s) up so they can energize the contactors and get the HV system online.

I'll be interested to hear about someone's actual experience here, but on my Bolt when it had a dead 12V battery, the battery soaked most of the energy from a current limited charger for quite a while before I was actually able to get it to flip on the charging contactor.

I’ll pay a $20 and a door dashed vegan burger to whoever finds a keyed (if there is such a thing) 12v source. Or to whoever is brave enough to find the meridian amp.

Trick request. The Rivian doesn't have a hard key
