As the title says, I had a front drive unit failure at 40 miles. I had driven the truck about 5 miles and my wife probably 10 miles. Fortunately, it died in the driveway and not on the road because it was DRT. After almost 3 weeks, I’ll be getting it back tomorrow.

Bummer. And thanks for sharing. I hope it will be smooth sailing for a while, after you get it back.

Please let us know what was the problem and how they solved it.
Not at all trying to be a smart ass but they replaced the front drive unit. I have no idea what a front drive unit is. I know it was an 8hr job. They did take it to the service center in Normal to get it done. They flew a tech to my house to see if they could fix it but it couldn’t be done without being on a lift.

If it is this, looks like a major job. It looks like, they take customer satisfaction seriously. Not fun to deal with it but I hope you won’t let it take away from the joy you can get out of it after this.

They did offer to rent me a car. I declined the offer as this is just a fun truck and not mission critical to my day to day.

It seems about as complex as replacing a transaxle on an ICE vehicle.

Can you provide a few details on how you knew you had a problem? Did you have driving problems, hear noises, etc. or was it "only" an alert on the display that told you there was a problem?

My wife was driving the truck and as she was pulling back in the driveway 2 codes popped up on the dash and the hazards came on. She stopped and it wouldn’t move again. They said the limp mode it what let her get to the parking spot then it was over.
I do now know how to do a hard reset so I at least learned that. We were hoping it was like my John Deere tractors where if you disconnect power it fixes most of your problems.

Coincidentally, today, I was wondering about this very issue, what happens if there is a motor failure. Specifically, I was wondering if the vehicle would/could disconnect the failed motor and allow one to proceed, using only the good motors. It sounds like that is a definite maybe.

That’s a definite no. It allowed it to limp so many feet to basically allow you to get off the road. It won’t limp along on 2 motors or 3 three motors. It appears when something goes down its designed to be incapacitated. The tech couldn’t even trick it into moving.
