Seems like you'll have to tell them how to put it in Neutral. I actually don't recall anywhere around me that has automatic car washes where you don't remain in the car either.
As it stands that's not even possible. You can only put the truck in Neutral if you're going to stay in the car with the doors closed. The moment you open the door the truck seems to go back into park. Unless someone knows something I don't.

Hey what timing! I took my R1T to the car wash today too. What a nerve racking experience for a whole lot of reasons. The head attendant guy at my place said I was the first one they've seen. He took care of moving the truck. I didn't even think of the neutral thing but when I looked back at the video the guy did stay inside the truck as it went through the tunnel. He must have figured out he needed to stay inside to keep it in neutral. Guess they figured it out though that does seem like a major problem for car washes.

Went outside to play and learn, here's what I found:

This is how you can put the truck in neutral and walk away. For 15 minutes at least. This should work at automatic carwashes.

Settings -> Vehicle -> Service -> (foot on brake) Parking Brake Release: ON

My hero!!
It's unnecessarily complicated but I'm glad there's a way.
Thank you!

I'm confused. What's not possible? You tell the attendant how to put it in neutral, they get in and close the doors and then put it in neutral, right?

Attendants drive the car to the machine, put it in neutral, and get out. No one usually rides in the car through the wash tunnel. I posted a method they can use above ^^ but its not intuitive how its done. The normal Neutral setting won't work in this carwash case like it does for most vehicles.

Hmm I haven’t used a car wash like you all are talking about, but I would have the same problem with my wrangler. If I put my wrangler in neutral and get out it’ll go into park automatically.

I have a gladiator and the trick there is to shift back into drive as confirmation.

Got a laugh out of this... So, I run a few different types of car washes.

Tunnel : vehicle is run through on a conveyor. (either chain drive or dual belts)
They can be either Express( you stay in your car) or Full/Flex (they take your car and bring it back)

Automatic : these can sometimes be located at the same location as self serve washes ( you get out and feed quarters to wash it yourself) the Auto(IBA) is one that you dont get out and put your car in park and it moves back and forth while your car is stationary. Then you drive out when it is done and sometimes through blowers at the end.

Of course there are exceptions to this as SOME Detail places use a Tunnel or an IBA to start and then wipe down and clean interiors. I know the one feature I would have never thought of was the charge door being activated by the pressure of the brush.

I also totally understand the park if you get out issue. I see it all the time where someone will get the vehicle ready and in Neutral and start going through, then reach in the back to get the kid out of car seat to watch the show and the vehicle go in park automatically. It unfortunately is their fault when the car wash pushes the next car into them. (You are responsible for what your car does) So that will be some testing I could do when I get mine...

Those are called Self Serves... They still exist and will always have a place. Usually small towns have them as the cost to build Express tunnels is in the millions and you have to have full time employees to work them. SS & IBA places only have to have a high schooler or meth addict come by and clean the trash cans every few days. Bigger cities tend to have more IBAs at gas stations and Express Tunnels as population density justifies the cost.

I would be happy to help you find a place if you share your general location. I have friends all over the US and know the South East extremely well.
